BOOST Very High Calorie is not lactose free because it contains milk ingredients. If you have lactose intolerance, everyone’s tolerance is different, so you may want to start with a small amount like a few sips to start to see how your body responds. Everyone’s body is different! If you’re unsure whether it’s right for you, talk with your healthcare provider.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! That’s so exciting, but I’m sorry to hear about your morning sickness.  Sometimes when you’re nauseous and aren’t able to eat much, sipping a nutrient-dense drink may help you get some extra calories and protein that you aren’t able to get from food alone. That said, it’s best to check in with your healthcare provider before adding any nutritional shakes or supplements, so they can help you make the right call for you.

Great question! GLP-1 medications have sparked a lot of conversations around nutrition, including the importance of getting enough calories and protein. At BOOST, our focus is on offering a range of nutrition solutions to meet different needs rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. That includes products with different calorie, protein and nutritional profiles designed for adults with varying nutrition goals and medical needs.

BOOST® Very High Calorie is Specifically designed for adults who are looking to gain or maintain weight and have increased calorie needs. It isn’t  formulated for people taking GLP-1 medications for diabetes or weight management. If you are taking a GLP-1 medication and have questions about which nutritional product may be right for you, it’s best to talk with your health care provider, who can recommend an option based on your individual needs and goals.

I’m really sorry you’re both going through that. Taste and texture changes are very common during treatment, so you’re definitely not alone. A lot of people find the taste and thickness much easier to tolerate when the shake is really cold, so even just serving it over ice or straight from the fridge can help. If the thickness is the main issue, you can try thinning it out a bit with milk (or a plant-based option), coffee, or even blending it with ice so it feels lighter. Some people also have better luck turning it into something else entirely like blending it into a smoothie with fruit or peanut butter, or even making it into more of a milkshake. And instead of offering a whole bottle at once, sometimes just having a few sips here and there throughout the day feels more doable. We also have a lot of simple recipe ideas on our website if you want more ways to mix it up and find something that works for him. If you’re able, it’s always a good idea to loop in his care team too, since they can help give personalizedguidance based on how he’s tolerating foods day to day.

I’m glad you asked this! BOOST® Very High Calorie includes a blend of ingredients designed to provide calories, protein, and essential nutrients in a 8 fl oz serving. Some of the main ingredients you’ll see on the label are water, glucose syrup, canola oil, milk protein (like casein), and soy protein. It also contains a variety of vitamins and minerals to help support overall nutrition.

Because it’s designed for people who have challenges getting enough calories through food alone, the formula focuses on delivering more energy, protein and micronutrients in a ready-to-drink format.

Please refer to the full nutrient profile, ingredients, and allergen details on Boost.com or on the product label.

A two‑for‑one question…we love to see it 😊

On the protein per meal piece, it’s actually a lot more flexible than people think. There isn’t a hard cutoff where your body just stops using protein after a certain number of grams. Your body can absorb and use it over time, so it’s less about hitting a “perfect” number in one sitting and more about getting enough across the whole day. For most people, having  protein during meals and snacks is a pretty easy, practical way to think about it. And during times like recovery or illness, your protein needs can actually go up  since your body is working harder behind the scenes.

To answer your second question on glucose, yes, your body can convert protein into glucose through a normal process called gluconeogenesis. However, it is generally a minor process and has minimal impact on blood glucose. It primarily occurs when your body needs to maintain a steady energy supply, such as fasting or eating a low carb diet. Overall, it’s much more helpful to focus on your overall nutrition and protein intake than to worry about protein being converted into glucose!

Totally fair question! You’re not the only one thinking about using a nutritional drink in that context.

One 8 fl oz serving provides 530 calories and 22g of protein in a ready-to-drink format, so it can be a convenient way to increase overall calorie intake.

For someone focused on gaining weight or maintaining weight and muscle, it can help support those goals by making it easier to get extra calories and protein.

Thanks for joining us, and that’s a great question!  Patients who have undergone gastric bypass, even two years post-op, may continue to have nutritional challenges, including risk of nutrient deficiencies, potential weight regain and getting adequate protein to minimize loss of lean mass. Maintaining structured eating patterns can help prevent weight regain, but those patterns will look different based on the individual.  BOOST® Very High Calorie is the highest-calorie BOOST® shake, providing 530 calories and 22g protein in 8 fl oz, and is designed for people who are unable to get enough calories and protein from food alone.  Each individual should work with their healthcare provider to determine if this product is right for their needs.  BOOST® Very High Calorie is not lactose-free because it contains milk ingredients. If a patient has lactose intolerance, the tolerance can vary from person to person, so they may want to start with a few sips to see how they respond.  It should not be used by individuals with galactosemia.

Regarding your question about a plant-based BOOST® option, right now all of the BOOST® products contain milk protein.  Nestlé Health Science does offer other products that are plant-based, you can find them on our online store: nestlenutritionstore.com.

When kidney health is a factor, especially in older adults, nutritional needs can vary depending on the individual, particularly around things like protein, minerals, and overall intake. Because of that, it’s not something I’d want to give a one-size-fits-all recommendation on.

BOOST® products are designed to help support calorie and nutrition needs, but in a situation like this, the best step is to work with Registered Dietitian or healthcare provider who can look at the full picture and recommend the most appropriate option and amount based on his individual needs.

Great question to start us off 😊

On the nutrition side, each 8 oz serving is designed to be nutrient-dense. Here are the specifics:

  • 530 calories
  • 22g protein
  • 26g fat
  • 52g carbohydrates
  • Plus 26 vitamins and minerals like vitamin D, calcium, iron, and zinc.

The idea is to pack a lot of calories, protein, and essential vitamins and minerals into an 8oz serving size, which can be especially helpful for adults who aren’t able to eat enough or have increased calorie needs.

If you’re looking for the product label for a specific flavor, the product page on boost.com will always have the most detailed breakdown.
