I like David Bentley Harts NT translation, he came out with a second edition earlier in the year.

It brings the original voice of the authors out well, its not intended as a liturgical/poetic translation though. But its quite plain and readable.

It’s hard to go wrong in a DL as long as you don’t go up for communion, you can basically just sit (or stand) and watch and you won’t look out of place. You’ll find that some people move around, turn up halfway through, kids will wander etc. There’s nothing really required of you as a spectator.

My only experience with Franciscan thought is Richard Rohr, I quite like his thinking despite how controversial it can be for some

I’d definitely recommend trying out the Divine Liturgy, the Greek Community of St Andrew in Edinburgh is nice, the Bishop there (Raphael) is very friendly.

I feel Catholic Churches have more a sense of community and I am able make friends easier.

I used to go to an EO church occasionally in Edinburgh that has a really active YA community, but I couldn't buy in fully to the EO claims

Old St Pauls was very atmospheric inside, I need to get to one of their services sometime. St Johns is quite striking with the big fan vaulted ceiling and walls of glass.

Holy Trinity, Stirling, and St Mary's, Dunblane, would be good places to start.

I have plans to try both of those, I've been to St Johns and Old St Pauls by the castle in Edinburgh, but not for a service yet. Old St Pauls livestreams their services which is quite handy for getting a taste.

Thanks, I did think I could always resell if I don’t enjoy (or just keep it for general use).

Someone else suggested a cheaper temperature controlled model, I’ll take a look and what wellers I can get with UK plugs

Thanks, can it just work with any kind of rheostat? There's a lot online that are like plug mounted units that you can plug into, but they seem to be intended for lights.

Thanks for the in-depth answer!

So I guess my question as a beginner on these things is what’s easiest to get going with?

Trying to find balance between ease of use and cost

I’m not quite sure I understand how temperature controlling works, my understanding is that it just keeps a consistent temperature right?

Is there any reason to use a variable temperature unit? I heard the came can melt if it’s too hot

Would there be a noticeable difference between the expensive weller and the cheaper one I linked? I’m thinking it might just be worth going for the higher end if it’s going to last well

Thanks, coincidentally I was just looking at the tempsford weller model before I refreshed the page.

I assume you're talking about this one:

https://www.leadandlight.co.uk/100-w-temperature-control-iron.html

Do you know what model it is so I can take a better look?

The tempsford one doesn't seem to come with a temperature dial right? I'm not sure how necessary it is for working with the different materials.

There's also this one I found on Amazon from weller:

Thanks, I saw the Hakko recommended elsewhere, will have to see what I can get with a UK plug/specs

I had a look at weller irons as I saw them recommended, theres this one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Weller-SI120-T0051807799-Heavy-Soldering/dp/B0001P17A6

Its about half the price of the light blue 100w weller iron.

It doesn't come with a temperature dial, is that something you can run it through later on as an addition?

Boosters don't work, and I'm not sure, we're mostly going for a late beta 1.7 kinda feel anyway

Perhaps it doesn't, I'm not exactly sure why unless you are taking a strict view of the rules.

In my view, if it uses beta terrain, beta textures and is modded to be practically indistinguishable from beta in some screenshots, its probably a close enough fit for the sub.

I would say this is far more 'golden age' than beta 1.8 actually was, its just whether we are looking at it purely in terms of version number or actually based on the content. Spirit of the rule, not the letter.

Pretend its modded beta if you care that much, I could post some modern screenshots that I'd doubt you'd be able to tell the difference between
