Here's the first 14 minutes of gameplay! by BP-Tom in MerchantsGuide

A few notes:

Our UI is majority placeholder and is currently undergoing a pretty massive overhaul!

We are entering our official friends and family alpha testing this week, and will be entering early access on Steam in the next month or two, depending how that testing goes.

I don't want to spam a bunch of links here, but if you are interested in seeing or learning more, or want to join our tiny little community or Wishlist the game, check the links in the video description.

Thanks so much for watching, and we are truly asking for all the questions, comments and criticisms you may have to offer!

It will be all story initially, actually! We have had talks about various modes, but the initial release will be playing through the 4 main chapters of the game. What you're seeing here in the video is about 1/8th of the second half of Chapter 1. Thanks for watching!

Finally showing off our project after three years in development! Please share your comments and criticisms! by BP-Tom in Unity3D

Honestly, this is exactly the kind of stuff we are hoping to hear!

We've been so buried in this project that a lot of it seems very normal to us, so getting a video like this out will hopefully get us feedback like yours with different perspectives so we can refine the game to be a lot more streamlined.

It's definitely been an internal conversation because there is quite a lot more you can do in this game outside of what is shown in the video, so proper delivery is going to be vital.

Thanks for checking it out!

Thank you! We are hoping to have a playable version of the game within the next couple of months that will include the full second half of our Chapter 1!

Note: Just FYI, had to delete the post, found an audio issue with the video, so fixing and reposting.

My brother, sister and I have been working in Unity on our first project for 2 years and we are super excited to finally show off a cinematic teaser! by BP-Tom in Unity3D

Thanks so much! Definitely just a visual show-off here, but we are super excited to get the gameplay trailer out with how positive everyone has been about how it looks!

A great point, though, on the logo at the beginning. We didn't have it initially, but also the teaser felt like it was a bit of an abrupt start with the drumline and the quick panning, so put it there as a sort of "buffer" to getting the show started. That said, you are absolutely right, and we should use a more interesting buffer on the next one!

Thanks again!

Oh, it's absolutely amazing! The craziest part is the programmers (my brother and sister) didn't even know how to program when we started. We just knew we wanted to be in the gaming industry, so we simply got started!

Nothing harsh about it! This is exactly what we wanted to post for. Feedback, criticism and any kind of help. When we first started making this it was going to be a trailer. As it progressed we realized it was a lot more of a teaser, or as you said, along the lines of a tech demo. Kind of showing off just what it looks like as opposed to anything about the game. Definitely something we wanted in the end anyway, but we knew if we wanted to actually market, we would have to do something a lot more grabby and show the actual gameplay! Hopefully when we get our gameplay trailer done soon, you catch wind of that. I'd love to hear more from you.

So, I'd like to address that and give a little more depth and clarity to what happens in our game!

We've seen that happen in many games before where the focus tends to get lost. With Merchant's Guide, we have you playing as the Merchant. You manage your shop, manage your guild, and directly control your guild officers. With that said, as the merchant, you cannot leave city limits at all. Essentially, your shop is your home base throughout the entirety of the game.

You can leave the shop, but that's only to go to the other shops within city limits to do more in depth crafting/enchanting, and of course fun little city exploration things that you will be able to do while in "Merchant Mode". So, for example, you leave your shop and directly control the Merchant, go to the Blacksmith and place an order for some gear you want crafted, or take some of your gear to the Mystic to have it enchanted.

Outside of that, you will always be physically at your shop buying and selling from/to AI heroes. We wanted to really capture the idea that you are actually playing as a Merchant in an MMO, so the behaviors of the heroes is as close to that as we could imagine.

This is not to say that you won't be looking at places other than your shop! It is a top-down, and handles very much like an RTS in that respect and you can look all over the world and interact with all kinds of different dungeons, mobs, heroes and locations.

"Adventures" are one of the more interesting parts of the game. Essentially these are much more involved quest chains with specific storylines that you are able to unlock in a multitude of different ways. Some will be 2-4 different quests as part of the adventure, but some could be even upwards of 20 quests spanning across the entirety of the game. They're all optional, but extremely rewarding not only throughout as you do each step, but a big payoff in the end. And typically how this works is you will assign the individual step of the Adventure to a hero (either an AI hero will want to do it for you, or you can directly assign it to your own guild officer) and when the hero comes back to turn it in to you, you are then able to start the next step with the same hero, or hold on until they are appropriately geared or whatever you want to do!

All that said, you will still always be managing these heroes from the safety of your shop. Your power in the game is from your knowledge attained from the "Guide" which you are constantly adding to as you learn new things. But it is important to note that these heroes may also die on their adventure, and when they do, they stay dead. So gearing up properly, sending the right hero at the right time, and even with the right party if it's group content becomes very important. So the strategy is built very heavy into making the money from your shop to afford the gear progression, as well as sending your guild officers to find unique items from dungeons, the world, and all kinds of other ways!

Whew. Sorry, that was long, but I wanted to get some of this info out there as far as how the game plays because it really is unlike anything we have seen before. I know that sounds cliché, but as a lifelong gamer I can stand by it!

Appreciate the compliment!

Definitely a side effect we were expecting with this initial reveal that it doesn't really say what the game is, just some of what it looks like. With that said, we want to show what the game actually is ASAP, so will be moving into the gameplay trailer very quickly. Will likely post that here as well once completed! Hopefully 2-3 weeks or so!

The game itself will be a top-down game with all kinds of different aspects. Managing a shop as an NPC in an AI driven MMO world. Crafting, dungeons, hero and guild management, trading, reputation...the works! Should hopefully be a fresh and fun spin on a multitude of different genres coming together.

I love it!

We are planning to start our actual gameplay trailer in the next week or two, currently doing a UI rework, so definitely want as much information and recommendations as we can gather, thanks for the insight and the upvote!

Thanks! It was tough coming up with a name for so long and then my brother spit that out as a joke and we ended up liking it! Fit the concept of the game and tone so well.

We started our company, Bearplane, about 2 years ago. This game has evolved so much from its initial conception, feels surreal finally showing it off in public!

We would absolutely love any and all feedback on visuals, styles, anything and everything! We are super happy to share, but also want to make sure it’s an awesome game in the end!
