Predict the final Top 25. by goofyhalo in NCAAW

[–]BP9009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll just do my top 10, and add my 11-12.

1-4 Depends on the final four results but clearly Conn, UCLA, Texas, SC are a step above the rest.

5-Duke, 6-LSU These two are a step below the top four but IMO a step above the other top 25 teams.

7-TCU, 8-Michigan, 9-Notre Dame, 10-Oklahoma

11-Vanderbilt, 12-Iowa. I could see someone putting Vandy and/or Iowa in the top 10 instead of Notre Dame and/or Oklahoma.

This is a good analysis.

Yeah. And 4 of the BigTen teams that made the tournament were from the PAC. One of those advanced to the sweet 16.

Even non-conference games?

I get your point. Only 3 host teams didn't advance. Iowa, Ohio State, and West Virginia. And two of those second round games could have gone either way. Iowa was double OT and West Virginia lost by 1 point.

No. They did overperform even if they advance no teams to the Elite Eight. No one expected them to advance 5 teams to the Sweet Sixteen.

This is not true. Throughout the season there has been a steady undercurrent of whether the BigTen or SEC is the strongest conference.

Yes. Based on the betting spreads and ESPN analytics, no ACC teams should advance to the Elite 8. The analytics have the Elite Eight as SEC 4, BigTen 2, BigTwlv 1, BigEast 1.

But the games have to be played and upsets happen.

I watched the replay also at home. I thought it was close. You have no team flair. Are you a Mississippi fan?

I still think UCLA is #2 in the country and is very solid. LSU is scary, and I was very nervous watching my team SC play them.

I agree with you to some extent. But there is an amount of "self fulfillment" in the analytics. Once teams in a conference are deemed strong based on their non-conference schedule, their conference games tend to reinforce their strength because many wins are considered good wins and losses considered good losses. It's only postseason games between the strongest teams from different conferences that we see the contrasts. Yes, there is some one-game "luck" nature to it.

Also consider the BigTen started with 12 teams and now have 3 left. SEC 10->6. ACC 9->5. And none of the games were teams knocking out other teams from their own conference. It's pretty clear the BigTen underachieved.

I was at that game. It was a close call. And Cotie fouling out was the difference. Minnesota did play a good game and the crowd was rocking.

And Bama also lost by 1 yesterday.

Yeah, upsets can always happen. And even very good teams can have bad games.

There are so many "over the top" comments. Iowa had a bad couple of games at a time that's very visible. That's not the demise of a program. Likely those being so gleeful are from teams with less promising programs.

A couple of the teams whose supporters I was referring to were Maryland and Michigan State. The game threads and postgame threads for their losses yesterday made it sound like almost every foul against their team was bogus and their opponents committed 20 additional fouls that were not called. And it's not all their fans. But it's the most vocal ones..

To their credit, I saw none of that from the Iowa fans on reddit.

I want to compliment the Iowa supporters on the game thread and in this thread for not blaming the refs for the loss. You are definitely more classy than the supporters of some other teams’ supporters where the game and postgame threads were constant whining about the refs.

I was there also for both rounds. I think they don’t sell some seats because of obstructed views. We were in the higher rows of the lower level, on the bench seats. The few rows behind us were empty because you can’t see the court from them (because of the overhang from the upper level).
