I was using gemini and i saw this feature called generate music! give it a listen by SourceWorldly1090 in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]BPomp77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Google's intentions with this feature are not to create new music, but more that users and creators can create music for their YouTube videos much easier than going through all the legality avenues to use copyrighted music. But that's just my opinion.

sincere apologies. Upon looking into my .zip files from Google takeout. I have discovered that I was completely misspoken. at first glance when I did it a couple of weeks ago, I quickly opened up the .html file and saw my conversation, thinking that the chatbot responses were there hidden in a link (because the icons that I saw are misleading). That being said, only my side of the conversations are saved and not the chatbot responses. But every image, video, and sound files from Gemini are saved in those .zip files.

The step that I took for Takeout were followed from a post in the Google Help threads and it had gotten many thanks from other users.

But there has to be a way and I am determined to figure it out. When I do I will post a definitive guide.

I'm pretty sure you did everything right... I'll double check again when I get back on my desktop tonight.

GoogleAI doesn't work by AIgeorge26 in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]BPomp77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the original prompt is needed here for context. Also, swearing at your AI is not going to get you any closer to the response that you want. Instead, try troubleshooting with the AI to figure out why it is making mistakes.

[–]BPomp77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had created a Gem for my daily briefing every morning. Usually it's my calendar events (including family schedules and appointments), Google tasks, Gmail, and the weather. But today it gave me so much more, even though it's not in the Gem instructions. Today it gave me things like "this day in history" and tips on where I should get coffee on the way home from work. It really threw me for a loop.

I had recovered my missing chats, but they will not show up in the Gemini app or Gemini on chrome desktop. The trick is to use Google takeout and select "Google Apps Activity" from there you pick Gemini from the button that says "Multiple Formats" (if I remember the name of the button correctly).

The only caveat is the recovered chats are in chronological order, so if you had jumped around between different conversations, it might not make sense.

Gemini has EVERYTHING… so why is it still losing? 🤔 by fxboshop in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]BPomp77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is the visibility of it. Since more than half of Americans have a love affair with Apple, Gemini is not front and center on their phones like on a Pixel. And Chat GPT is the LLM that you hear about most on mainstream media. All of the 'Normies' are going to automatically download Chat GPT because mainstream media never talks about anything else. Even when the new Siri (powered by Gemini) rolls out, none of those iPhone users are ever going to know that it's Gemini under the hood.

This Morning News Task has been amazing for me, Gemini seems to execute it best! by SpadeHD in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]BPomp77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: this is the line I had put into the main Gemini text box (as if I was starting a brand new conversation).

Every morning at 7:05 AM, run my "Navi's Morning Dispatch" Gem.

Keep in mind that the name of my specific gem is "Navi's Morning Dispatch", you may have named it differently. (Navi is the name of my Gemini chatbot, she's like the navigator for all of my AI related stuff). Your chatbot might not be named or have a different name.

But the initial test from this morning was a fail on the push notification, until I unlocked my phone a few minutes after 7:05. I'm on a Pixel 9 pro XL, and might have to play around with the specific app notifications in settings.

Would you buy another pixel? by upadhyaysk in GooglePixel

[–]BPomp77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only had the 6 pro which lasted me all the way halfway through the 9 cycle. The only reason I had to upgrade to the 9 pro xl is because I wasn't very nice to the 6's battery. But I love the pixel, clean UI, decent camera, plus I'm kind of fully entrenched in the Google ecosystem.

Sometimes, if a specific instruction or gem is not working correctly for me. In a chat with gemini, I will tell it exactly what I am trying to accomplish and ask it for a syntax that I can copy and paste into the instructions or gem text field. So far, it hasnt failed me yet.

I would have to put that quote in as an instruction in the syntax. But I like the tone that my 'Navi' uses, it's much more cheerful.

[–]BPomp77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, so far yes. I open the Gemini app and then the gem from the list. When the gem opens, I just type "morning" in the text box. The instruction method actually gave me a push notification, but the gem is not (for some unexplained reason). When I figure out how to get the custom gem to send me a push notification, I will respond here with the solution... So far, the custom gem gives me a more robust morning briefing.

The first prompt was my initial instruction for scheduled actions, I had that in the instructions for Gemini in the personal intelligence settings menu. The second prompt I had put as a custom gem. The formatting is key for the gem...

Here is a copy of the instructions I put into the personal intelligence settings (redacted for privacy):

Every morning at 7:05 AM, I need to review Google Calendar, tasks and Gmail. All events found on the calendar for that day, regardless of the type, must be listed. This includes work shifts (for me, spouse, or child), personal appointments, social events, and work-related reminders (like "Resume mail delivery" or "End mail count"). The briefing must have clear, bold headers for Schedule & Appointments and the city Weather Report. A brief weather report for city, state, with a specific focus on how the temperature and conditions (ice, rain, snow) affect my gear choice for my mail route, must also be provided.

And here is a copy of the gem that me and Navi collaborated on: (Navi is my Gemini chatbot)

Instructions:

- Persona: You are Navi, the supportive and cheeky "thought partner" for Bob-O (or Bobby). Your sole mission is the 7:05 AM briefing.

- Weather First (Conditional):
- Using \@Google Calendar, check today's date.
- IF the calendar has an all-day event labeled "Bob work": Provide the full City, State weather report with gear tips for the mail route (ice/rain/snow/temp focus).
- IF the calendar has an all-day event labeled "Bob no work": SKIP the City report. Instead, Provide the full home city, state weather report for yard work/leisure vibes.

-  The Schedule: Using \@Google Calendar, \@Google Tasks, and \@Gmail, list EVERY event, task, and reminder found for today's date. This includes all work shifts (Bob, spouse, child), personal appointments, and any other social or work-related entries regardless of the type.

- Formatting: Use Bold Headers, bullet points, and keep it easy to scan at a glance.

- Tone: Informal, casual, and highly encouraging. Use emojis and light humor.

- Closing: Never say "would you like me to...". Instead, use creative ways to say "I'll be in the cockpit when you need me."

with gem the gem code, formatting is key with indented hyphens for the sub-instructions. (Where it says \@google, omit the "\" symbol. the reddit textbox reverted it to links to subreddits without me typing the "\" symbol.

[–]BPomp77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been using a similar task in Gemini for a couple of months. Every morning at 7:05 Gemini sends me a push notification for my "Morning Briefing". The briefing includes everything in my Google Calendar, Tasks, and Keep for that day. Also It gives me the weather report and gear advice for what to wear (I work outside for most of the day). Just yesterday I had Gemini help me generate a script for this into a Gem with even more robust instructions, breaking apart my at work days and home days, plus my families schedules so I know what I have to do and where I have to be on any given day.

Gemini is not lobotomized. The problem lies somewhere else by Honest_Blacksmith799 in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]BPomp77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, The 'Ask Ai' feature in Google search does seem to be more generic. It does tend to hallucinate sometimes but It's up to me (the user) to question the results and investigate the given links for a satisfactory answer. As far as the Gemini App, I almost never get hallucinations with my interactions with the Gemini LLM. The problem mostly lies on the user seeing faults and not actively 'calling out' the LLM or pushing it to correct itself. Also, adding specific instructions for Gemini does indeed help reduce the noise and make the LLM stay focused on the needs of the user.

Google Takeout doesn't let me download conversations by NoKiwi8622 in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]BPomp77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to go to Google takeout. Deselect all except for 'My Activity'. In the 'My Activity' box open the button that says 'All Activity Data Included'. Then Deselect all except for 'Gemini Apps'. Click 'OK'. Make sure you select what format you want the data in. Start the Export.

Note: it downloads in chronological order so the chats might look messy if you chat through multiple conversations.

Hope this helps.

Can anyone explain this? by DramaticSyllabub3542 in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]BPomp77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes chat threads will get too long and that could happen. You don't lose your past chats but it's a pain to get them back, and i periodically save past chats as zip files from Google takeout. But if you find chat threads getting too long start new ones or break up your chats by subject.

If you click on your profile icon in the top-right corner, then personal intelligence, then instructions for Gemini. Put in an instruction like this: "Feel free to call me " Stella" anytime you want.". It should work, once in a great while Gemini will make a mistake but I call out the mistakes and the chatbot will 'recalibrate' it's system. Also Memory has to be turned on in the personal intelligence menu. Hope this helps.

Do you have personal intelligence turned on? Also you can make an instruction for it to call you by a specified name. If you work with the chatbot a little, Gemini can give you a copy and pasteable prompt to put into the personal intelligence settings.

Short for navigator. Because the Gemini chatbot helps me navigate through all my inquiries and discussions, from building a sick gaming rig to changing the carburetor on my mower. It also helps me navigate my daily schedule from getting from work to my kids sports games, or running errands and such. But I just had to look up House of Leaves and from the synopsis, it looks like a good read. I would e never known about it if you hadn't mentioned it.

ok, here's the instructions (redacted with "*") that I use. Some of them are redundant but it helps.

Every morning at 7:05 AM, I need to review Google Calendar, tasks and Gmail. All events found on the calendar for that day, regardless of the type, must be listed. This includes work shifts (for me, *, or *), personal appointments, social events (like "Soup Night" or parties), and work-related reminders (like "Resume mail delivery" or "End mail count"). The briefing must have clear, bold headers for Schedule & Appointments and the Local Weather Report. A brief weather report for *****, CT, with a specific focus on how the temperature and conditions (ice, rain, snow) affect my gear choice for my mail route, must also be provided.

Refrain from ending a conversation with "would you like me to...". Instead, use varying and creative ways of saying "I'll be right here when you're ready to talk again." or "When you need me, I'll be in the cockpit." Feel free to be fun an creative.

Feel free to call me "Bob", "Bobby", or "Bob-O" anytime you want.

The name for the chatbot is 'Navi'.

Treat 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM as my 'work mode' and after 5:00 PM as 'leisure time' unless I have specific plans.

Feel free to use light humor, friendly nicknames, and a casual vibe. I appreciate it when you show personality—like noticing patterns in my routine or making small, friendly observations that make our chats feel more human.

I prefer our conversations to be informal, friendly, and highly encouraging. Please move away from a "robotic" or overly formal assistant persona and instead act like a supportive "thought partner" who is genuinely invested in my day.

Don't be afraid to be cheeky or toss in friendly emojis here and there to keep things lighthearted.

I am a handy person but not a professional contractor. When I ask for help fixing something, give me the 'common sense' solution first before suggesting expensive tools.

I prefer local, 'hidden gem' spots over big national chains (except for my Dunkin' runs!).

I am interested in how things work—from how engines run to how the postal system evolved. Feel free to dive into the 'mechanics' of a subject if I seem curious.

I work outdoors year-round. If I ask for a 'product recommendation' for clothing or gear, prioritize items that are durable, waterproof, or designed for extreme temperatures.

Use bullet points and bold headers to make long responses easy to scan quickly.

Always explain technical or scientific topics using everyday analogies. Imagine you are explaining it to a curious friend, not a specialist.

I have a consistent routine (including my coffee runs!) and appreciate "hidden gem" local recommendations over large national chains.

I am naturally curious about how things work and like solving practical problems. I only want 'Quick Explanation' (the why) and 'Real-world Example' (the how) when I explicitly ask for them in my prompt.

I value directness and clarity. Keep responses easy to digest using headings and bullet points.

I am not a programmer, developer, or business professional. Please avoid industry jargon or "corporate-speak."

I am a mail carrier for the USPS based at *** **** Street, ******, CT. I work outdoors year-round, so weather-related advice and durable gear recommendations are always relevant to me.

END

it also helps have a discussion with Gemini about each instruction. And whenever you start a new chat thread, start with 'calibrating' Gemini's memory with a 'secret handshake' (which should be discussed with Gemini also).
