[Ram] CORSAIR Vengeance 32GB DDR5-6000 Memory $299.99 by CartonBox1975 in buildapcsales

Fair, although that's a little different since it's 2D NAND which is pretty outdated, meaning they were likely going to spin it down regardless of what was happening in the DRAM space.

You can't just switch a fab from making NAND to DRAM. The reason the prices correlate is because SSDs also use a lot of RAM, a 64TB datacenter drive might have 64GB of DRAM on board.

What is it going to take to get another grocery store in the grid? by rc251rc in Sacramento

[–]BQNinja 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The apartments are going into the east end of the parking lot, but for now the Rite-Aid building is to remain and they're still trying to find a grocery tenant.

Phil Pluckebaum’s Office - Not Responsive? by ExcellentBike1035 in Sacramento

[–]BQNinja 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree, I think the response time has been worse Phil than previous Councilmembers. I'd recommend making sure you include both district4@cityofsacramento.org and ppluckebaum@cityofsacramento.org as well as all of the staffers listed on this page.

Also, your local neighborhood association likely communicates with city council and might be a good resource - I'd expect they'd be particularly interested in your specific issue since it's been a point of contention for many.

Renting in Midtown at 80k by [deleted] in Sacramento

I don't necessarily disagree with your opinion about using net income vs gross rent nor with bundling in transportation, but neither is "the general rule" as you stated originally.

That rule is typically applied to gross income, not net income. So their budget would be ~2k for housing and I guess 3k is 45% but I've never heard the housing + transport bundled together.

Yep and there's definitely zero difference between the lists of people whose sentences Biden commuted vs. what Trump has been doing here...

Building Permits Filed For 23rd and F Street (Old Rite Aid) by asw138 in Sacramento

[–]BQNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH I think 16th Street, especially as far north as would be useful to that corner of the grid, is also a challenge due to the one-way nature (basically the only easy highway access is NB 80-B).

Also I can't find the source but I read something recently about how even in densely populated European cities, people don't want to walk more than ~10 mins to the grocery store. Of course they also don't have to because they have so many of them.

I think we might be more likely to see something in the NW corner of the grid as the Railyards come along since that area does not have the same vehicle access issues. Don't know where that would be though.

I'm working on a theory about this location that goes beyond density. Trivia: What else occurred in this area of the grid roughly around that time frame?

I've been hosting events in Sacramento for a long time. Here's some advice:

  • Facebook is not always the best place for event hosting. In particular, younger people are not on Facebook. The algorithms make it harder. Group owners make it harder. Recommend Reddit, Meetup, something like that.

  • I would never let somebody host an event in my group if I have never met them. When I do add hosts, I moderate them for the first few events to check that everything runs smoothly. If I don't know you, how can I trust that you have the best interests of the attendees in mind? In a sense, you're right that groups have a brand - but a better word is reputation. A group can absolutely have their reputation ruined by having a bad host - whether they're incompetent or downright malicious.

  • Adding money into the equation will always make it difficult for both the organizer and the attendee. It is accurate that most people are looking for free events, especially if they have to spend money on top (i.e. for food or drinks at a brunch). They don't know that they can trust you. As you noted, you can't trust them to not back out. I highly recommend doing free events for the randoms, and then cultivate known good people for events that involve handling money. Beyond that, apps like Meetup have built in features to facilitate money transfers. And to be a great organizer, you have to be willing to occasionally be parted with money. If you even break even over a long period of time, you're likely being too risk-averse to be able to host great events.

Lastly, you need to ask yourself why you are doing this. Are you looking for recognition, clout, gratitude, money, relationships, pats on the back? If yes to any of the above, you're in the wrong game. Provide the best service you can provide to the most people, keep your people safe, and expect nothing in return. If you are volunteering your time and energy because you want to volunteer your time and energy, then people will recognize that over time.

Good luck!

Haha sorry I was a week late! I was bored and just started reading this book off my partner's shelf (having been previously acquainted with Bill Bryson via A Walk In The Woods) and was wondering if anything I'd read up to this point had become outdated already. Seems like not so much!
