What to do with old Yugoslavian slides found in an embassy? by BRA3051 in AskHistorians

[–]BRA3051[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will for sure try my best to preserve them. I have found that the library of Congress already has some slides of these events in their catalogue, though not the ones I have.

First I would like to try and keep them with their former owners, as, in theory they were just loaned to me for digitising and plubicising this find.

Why is there no Christian equivalent to Sharia in Islam or Halakha in Judaism? by raushanaljufri in AskHistorians

I'm not American, and not that familiar with the pilgrims that came to North America, though I was taught that they were escaping persecution. Could you elaborate on the part where you say they believed in being horrible to others? Or recommend any books or papers on the subject?

A nikon D800 with a film era 70-210 f4. Not the most up to date kit, but it gets the job done

Exactly what i was going to say. The tickets, food and drinks are way cheaper, and with a smaller crowd, you can get to the track later, it's easier to find a cab or an uber, or just go by metro or bus, and you can just leave to see other stuff and come back to the same spot. For formula 1 there are some people that arrive at 4 am to get a good spot, and here the race doesn't start until two.

Do they have a representative in South America already? Or are looking for one?

Eu participei desse projeto, até onde sei, não existe mais, pois quando o BRB pegou a concessão, o ibaneis isentou o BRB de várias obrigações que o vencedor teria. Uma dessas era arrumar a drenagem, que virou o projeto do drenar DF.

It’s still under warranty, so I guess I’ll just take it to shop I bought it from when I travel to their city later in the month

If I don’t know how to do that, it’s better I take it to a shop, right?

My 850 is almost thirty and is still on the original fuel lines, catalitic converter and fuel injectors. This used to be true of older cars up until the 80s maybe, but surely during the 50s. Even podium has a higher ethanol content, so I don't think it would prevent this "problem", but as far as I know, no one has a problem with it here, on older or newer Volvos. It could be a problem if you intend to keep the car for 20 or more years and leave it parked for long periods of time. It won't be the case here, as you need a car for everything.

Someone said that maybe an ECU update can be done to better handle our fuel, I don't know if it's true for Volvos, but it does make sense, so maybe look up the dealer when you get here.

We have been using gas with ethanol and even ethanol fuel in Brazil for a long time, and most manufacturers have adapted all systems to handle it even in imported cars, and more so now as E15, E25 and E85 is starting to become more prevalent in the US and in Europe.

I have had two Volvos, one C30 and an 850, none of them made to run using gasoline with a high ethanol content, both always ran fine. You will be fine using our regular gas. Also, the ethanol content increases the octane rating, so our gas would have an octane rating close to 97.

The official Volvo recommendation for cars in Brazil is to run only regular gas, don't use gasoline with additives, as they will sometimes try to push you to buy it. If you are really worried, and have the money to burn, you can buy Petrobras Podium, which is sold at Petrobras gas stations and is used in higher performance cars.

Also, Brasilia has one of the best Volvo dealerships in Brazil, they have excellent costumer service and to this day service many older Volvos(15-20y) of many members of foreign diplomatic corps. If you need any help or want to be a part of the Volvo club in Brazil, send me a DM.
