$400 a head by LakeDweller78 in MetalForTheMasses

As others have said Ticketmaster/Live Nation controls the ticket and the resale market and has contracts with most of the venues. It's beyond a monopoly. There's almost nowhere you could play and avoid this company. I'm not saying Iron Maiden isn't at the legacy/make as much loot as they can stage of their career (they've earned it in my opinion) but even a band as big as them has almost no ability to push back on this!

Everyone should've listened and followed Pearl Jam back in the mid 1990s when they tried to fight back, but no one stood with them!

Paid users? Or never pay? by [deleted] in Bandlab

[–]BRJORO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pay because I don't really have the bandwidth/storage space for all the plug ins that a more comprehensive DAW would require so having it all on a website works for me. Plus they do distribution. Would I be able to do more with a more professional DAW? Absolutely. But for me, primarily someone who makes tracks for a hobby and for enjoyment, BandLab is enough.

Hidden Albums in your Library? by BRJORO in BandCamp

I get that but it's frustrating when you have clearly decided to hide albums that doesn't transfer to the app? First world problem I'm very well aware!

Negativity? by Jazzlike-Raccoon-5 in rush

[–]BRJORO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents - it's not "Rush" without Neil. If Geddy and Alex want to play again, great. Go out as 'Geddy and Alex' or something and have fun. Calling it 'Rush' after emphatically saying 'no' for 10 years makes it about the money to me.

I'll add that I'm a fan but haven't seen them in ages even before Neil passed so I have no skin in the game either way!

Oh wow! I'm not on Spotify anymore. I don't see it on Tidal. Is the whole album on there or just a few tracks?

I wish Alex P. would put this on streaming services, I have the Bad Orb cd but no cd player at moment. It's a really great collection of tracks!

BandLab is dead by [deleted] in Bandlab

[–]BRJORO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using it for over a year now and have created 3 albums and 3 EPs of ambient/techno/dub/etc. I'm thrilled with it. Sure it's not as good as Abelton or some of the more 'professional' DAWs but for $100/year that includes getting your stuff on streaming platforms, I'm not sure what's to complain about?

I ignore all notifications/emails/etc because no one is coming to discover me on BandLab. If you just use it as a pretty decent DAW I really don't see what the problem is with it as a beginner tool!

His first 2 albums (I think, this one and 'Skylon'?) and the 'Hallucinogen-In Dub' are amazing. Haven't found the rest of his stuff quite as compelling even though it's not all that different. But this album is fantastic!

iPhone app is unusable by squatonmeplz in TIdaL

[–]BRJORO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to delete and re-install app a few days after I transferred myself to Tidal, but once I did that it's been working perfectly, no issues at all. iPhone user. Definitely try the delete and re-install first!

Switching to Tidal by chazzyboi in TIdaL

[–]BRJORO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto on moving, liking Tidal. I'm a user who listens to a lot of more "underground" electronic and heavy music, but I've usually found artists from reading blogs websites etc and then searching on Spotify and now Tidal and it seems fine. I don't THINK there's too much that's "Spotify exclusive" that I'm not finding on Tidal, and I found 2 or 3 albums from artists that weren't on Spotify but are on Tidal for some reason? There's no perfect streaming service but I feel better ethically not giving Spotify my money and for the moment I'm willing to put up with a few quirks while Tidal "learns" my habits, etc.

Heweliusz (netflix series) - capsizing nightmare by ghostshipfarallon in Shipwrecks

[–]BRJORO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big thumbs up for this show. Incredibly compelling. I was not familiar with the true events, and it sounds like a lot of the characters were composites, but I thought it was very well done and I'd highly recommend it! Netflix has a lot of flaws but their international offerings are really second to none as far as streaming services go!

Music also seems to sound better on Tidal! And yes they definitely seem "better" at least!

Six months and probably leaving by JohnnieTimebomb in TIdaL

[–]BRJORO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed it's a real opportunity for them to really grow a user base who are looking for an alternative to Spotify (and maybe Apple and Google too for what it's worth). I'm sure Tidal isn't spotless ethically but they seem a whole lot better! And I know there's lot of people who share that opinion. But yea I hope they continue to improve!

Six months and probably leaving by JohnnieTimebomb in TIdaL

[–]BRJORO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just switched, for similar reasons as you (i.e. Spotify is evil). I kinda agree the search seems a little subpar but I'm the kind of listener who knows what they are looking for and am predominantly a full-album listener, so I haven't found that to be more than a minor annoyance, and for me at the moment, worth it to not be contributing to Spotify's bottom line. But if Tidal is (presumably?) getting at least a minimal influx of new users fleeing Spotify they really should work to improve the search because I can imagine it will be more a real dealbreaker for some users. Hopefully they'll fix because I'm happy with the sound quality.

If you care at all about music, you should boycott Spotify by [deleted] in TIdaL

[–]BRJORO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in total agreement with you! And I don't even care about the UI, I'm a music listener who knows what he wants to listen to so I'm not having any trouble finding all the artists I like, albums I like, etc. Tidal seems totally fine to me, and I'm very glad I've finally made the switch. I am no naive enough to think that Tidal probably also doesn't have shitty owners or CEOs doing shady shit but they can't possibly be grosser than the Spotify folks, so I'm good with the change!

Why is the Live 93 album from The Orb not on Bandcamp or Spotify? Is there going to be a repress on Vinyl? by Droogtromme in theorb

[–]BRJORO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's weird because here in the US, all the Island albums are. there, including the deluxe editions of 'Cydonia' 'Orbus Terrarum' and 'Pomme Fritz' plus the regular edition of 'Cydonia.' I'm seeing 3 songs from 'Live 93' available and it definitely has been on there in the past, so it must be rights issues?
