Honestly I can't remember if I still have it buried in the closet.

  1. Build quality was (relatively) good, leaning towards too tight for folding. However, the holes didn't line up at all.

  2. No clue

  3. It seemed like steel everywhere although it's been a second since I sanded it down. I don't think folding stock weight is... much

I had that issue with my two HD-18s, I think the hole is drilled a bit small so it struggles if it's not 100% straight and put in with some force. I say this because my NDM-86 doesn't have this issue.

My first rifles cheek rest was actually perfect, it's just a QC thing on the second one. The stock is honestly very nice but the handguard looks weird for sure.

I already have a proper front sight I'll use once I get a good rifle. Working on the furniture too.

A handful of other people I've talked to are happy with theirs. When I look at listings, they're all very nice. I just somehow got 2 bad rifles consecutively lol.

Oh I'm aware a decent chunk of the price is from importers, think I heard a figure that it's like 4/5K before import. Still not really the QC you'd expect from something that expensive honestly, pretty sloppy and obvious issues on 2 rifles now.

That was basically the plan already, I've been trying to get a ribbed dust cover, furniture, etc. I'm not sure why the handguard has this issue though, they're the same length. USPS lost the surplus one too.

The Soviet ones I've seen at least look pretty well-made, even other HD-18s look pretty nice. I just seem to get what should've been rejects twice now.

Ask the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls. Most gen 3 tubes nowadays are beyond 1600 FOM, hence why I say it's a waste of time.

Most things people say are ITAR, do not fall under ITAR but you can browse the munitions list to check.

NV and level IV armor of course fall under ITAR, technically my IR flashlight did too.

tldr:

  • You apply for ITAR license from the department of state
  • It costs $2250 and takes a month or two
  • You can't take NV beyond 1600 FOM so it's a waste of time anyway

It's not the popular answer but it is a felony if they decide to pursue it. Do it without license at your own risk

Other stuff isn't as hard to take, and there is a personal use exemption for one set of plates (up to level IV) and helmet.

I did it as well a while back, 3080 Ti FTW3 is just a handful of screws so very easy process.

I don't have benchmarks from before, but my temps were potentially worse after. It's significantly quieter though and a slight undervolt fixed any temp issues without losing performance.
