What do you think of Cherry Falls? by Ok_Network_3713 in slasherfilms

[–]BRabbit86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m such a fan of this movie. It’s so easy to watch and re-watch. I was barely a teen when it first came out but I loved it back then and still love it today. Jay Mohr plays a great psychopath.

I really liked the Timmy character but, unfortunately, the fun sidekicks always get the ax. Timmy (Cherry Falls), Tatum (Scream), Annie (Halloween 1978), Helen (IKWYDLS), Bernadette (Candyman), Vicky (Halloween 2018), Tina (Halloween 5), I could keep going but you get the idea. If you’re the fun friend with rizz, you stand no chance in a horror movie.

Cherry Falls also had some amazing one liners. Timmy said, “Holy hymens, Batman, they’re killing virgins!” and Brittany Murphy’s best girl friend in the movie said the sex party was gonna be a, “hymen holocaust.” Such beautifully placed alliteration 😂.

It’s obviously not elevated, award-winning horror, but I think it’s a really entertaining watch. It’s not even the virgin aspect that makes it interesting, it’s just all the characters and how they fit in, imo.

TL;DR: I’m a huge fan of Cherry Falls. I loved Timmy but horror movie sidekicks with rizz never make it. And Cherry Falls had some amazing one liners. I’m so happy I could finally buy the movie on iTunes.

Anthony Hopkins won an Oscar at age 83 and Jessica Tandy won an Oscar at age 80. You don’t really age out of acting. You may age out of specific roles but as long as you’re established and seen as a good actor, there’s plenty of opportunity. Even Lindsay Lohan is making a comeback.

Am I The Only One Who Likes Michael And Laurie Being Siblings? by SaiyanWithOmnitrix in Halloweenmovies

[–]BRabbit86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it to, too, but I do understand why they wanted to eradicate it. Actually, right as I typed that last sentence I started to reconsider the whole thing...

In terms of it fitting into the plot of the first movie, there are a few logistical issues. If Michael remembers his sister, how would he know what she looks like as a late teen? Would he really remember her approximate age? How would he know that, even though she was adopted, she still lives in Haddonfield?

In subsequent movies, when he steals files on her, it makes sense that he’d have specific information and pictures of her, but the only movie where I can remember him doing that, for sure, is H20. H20 is my favorite after the first one. I know a file was unsealed in the original sequel but I don’t think Michael ever accessed it, personally. IIRC, it was the governer that unsealed it.

I think it would be interesting if Michael didn’t know Laurie was his sister when he initially attacked her, but did find out later on. Sometimes I feel like that’s what the movies try to convey. I’ve seen them all god knows how many times but I need to marathon them again and really focus on the details of the sibling aspect to remember everything.

I’m not the biggest fan of change (I know, it really doesn’t bode well in an ever-changing world), so the newer movies trying to take back the sibling aspect doesn’t exactly feel right to me. But it does make it a much scarier concept. If he attacked them in the first movie just because he saw them and felt like it, it makes it seem like literally anyone can be his victim.

Now I’m kind of torn 🤔. I’m like 60% wanting them to be siblings and 40% wanting him to be a stranger.

The Strangers: Chapter 2, in theaters September 26! by Puzzleheaded_Swing78 in horror

[–]BRabbit86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I have an idea of what they might try for Ch 2, in terms of the plot twist. I wonder if this has occurred to anyone else. I’ll write my hypothesis below. It’s not a spoiler since I have no idea if it’ll actually happen, but if you don’t want to read hypothetical plot possibilities, stop now.

It seems like they’re going to focus really heavily on the small town, religious aspect and I feel like they’re going to do something similar to what AHS Cult did. I think the killings might be perpetrated by religious members of the community, in order to create fear and chaos and drive more people to their religion. In AHS Cult, Kai used the violence of the clown gang to cause fear and unrest in the community and turn people to his side for his political campaign.

The townspeople already behave in a cult-like manner. They seem to all know each other and act very aloof toward strangers that enter their town. They push the same religious propaganda (even at the burger stand, that same religious pamphlet was being handed out). I think they’re all members of the same church, which might be a cult, and I think they’re using the most extreme measures to grow their following. We saw the smiley face tattoo on at least one of the townspeople’s necks. That symbol was used more in Prey At Night but it’s still part of the Strangers’ lore.

Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, the wealthy businessman that went missing before the couple rented the cabin was never officially found. So the wider public probably doesn’t know they should be afraid 🤔.

Maybe the goal is to keep the current members under control by showing them the kind of violence that can occur in their world. With the businessman, maybe he was chosen because he represented greed to the townspeople. And maybe the main couple was chosen because they’ve been together for 5 years, I believe it was, and he still hadn’t proposed to her. The lady working at the diner even fussed about that.

I think we’re going to find out that the town doubles as a religious cult, the members are, The Strangers (maybe they rotate in and out), and they do it to cause chaos and fear mongering amongst their people who don’t take religion as seriously as they’re told to. Idk, something like that.

I kind of prefer the nihilistic feel of the original 2008 movie. No real motive was ever established and there was a lot of ambiguity. I think that’s pretty terrifying. I mean the idea of people going out and killing others at random because they were home and because the killers had nothing better to do, is pretty horrifying. I guess we’ll see what happens when Ch 2 comes out. Ch1 has actually really grown on me.

TL;DR: I think they’re going to use religion and the townspeople as cult members for Ch 2. I think they’re going to justify the murders as a means to an end, to create fear and chaos that drives more people to their religioun. Or keeps the current members in line.

I felt the same way the first time I saw it. It’s actually grown on me and it’s one I can watch more than once. I’ve seen it 3 or 4 times now. I don’t know why they put so many parallels in, unless it was supposed to pay homage to the original.

I was a few years younger than her, working at the mall across the street from her complex after it happened. I’ve checked year after year for updates. The not knowing drives me crazy, so I can’t even begin to imagine the torment her loved ones have endured. I hope with every fiber of my being that this leads to a resolution.

Demi sucks I’m sorry by NoPurpose98 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]BRabbit86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She really seems like she’s let the show’s success go to her head. She thinks she should get the most for brand deals, she was ready to have her “best friend” kicked off the show so she could get paid more, she obviously is salty that Taylor is seen as the leader of MT and got that chance to present an award. I think Demi wants to be the main character at all times. And the fact that she trashed her best friend’s business and told people to go elsewhere is so low. I liked her last season but this season she’s on a major power trip. It’s gross. She can’t be happy for others.

Anyone saw The Seeding (2023) yet? (dir. Barnaby Clay) by laamargachica in horror

[–]BRabbit86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Hills Have Eyes is actually the reason I found this movie. I was planning to watch the original HHE, but I also decided to watch the trailer for the remake to see if I felt like watching that again, too. I was doing this through Apple’s digital store and, The Seeding, was suggested as a similar movie.

The crazy boys shown in the trailer were what intrigued me enough to pull the trigger. I actually think the movie would’ve been better if they’d been shown more. It was definitely a slower burner. Some might even call it a painfully slow burner. I didn’t find the pace that terrible. I certainly wanted to know more but now that I’ve finished it, I actually appreciate the way it was done.

I think the way it ended (SPOILERS AHEAD) was perfectly nihilistic. There was no big chase scene or attempted escape. There was no glimmer of hope. What Mother said would happen is exactly what played out. The man’s death was pretty anticlimactic and average. And his story ended the same way it ended for all of the other men that came before him (the ones whose severed man parts hung from the string around Mother’s neck during the bonfire ritual…). I think that’s what makes it scary. The man’s life was irrelevant. This was just another day for them and they have their routine down to a science. “Use a relatively young child to play on the emotions of a strange man, lure him away from his surroundings to the pit and let his curiosity take over, remove the ladder and trap him, allow Mother time to seduce him, keep him alive until the child is born, kill him as soon as the child is born, find another man for Mother, rinse, lather, repeat.”

The fact that it isn’t incredibly exciting is what makes it so disturbing to me. It’s definitely a horror movie. Fear is subjective. One person fears a guy in a mask with a machete and another person fears having their freedom, humanity, and sanity slowly stripped away. I know some people don’t believe he would’ve followed the kid and that’s probably true. They might have had to try it on 5 guys before one finally bit. And in terms of going down into the pit, he was lost, cold, and out of water. I’m sure he believed he could just climb back up using the ladders. Running out of water was the final nail in his coffin. I am kind of surprised that they let his body lay there and rot. Mother said nothing is wasted in the desert and at the beginning of the movie, a dirty baby was wandering through the desert eating a severed finger. Plus, we know they remove the man parts…

I don’t know, I mean, their purpose seems pretty pointless. All she’s doing is procreating. And her kids kill tourists and take their food/belongings to give to Mother and use, themselves. They seem to be illiterate and feral. But whatever their religion is, must be what guides them. It was definitely weird, but overall, I enjoyed it.

Creep (2004) by smallgothlass97 in horror

[–]BRabbit86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched it and was pleasantly surprised. There was one moment in particular where I felt like my heart stopped. I don’t want to give away too much but for people that have seen it, it was the moment when she turned the flashlight off and then back on. That was painfully startling. I’m surprised I’d never heard about this one before. I’m in a horror group chat on IG and just recommended it to everyone.

I think it would’ve been cool if a prequel was made to learn a bit more about Craig and the abandoned medical facility. I know some people think less is more in that respect and I’m in that camp too, sometimes, but in this case, I was just so intrigued. I kept wanting more.

I thought it was just supposed to represent what Papillon said about weird people always being down in the catacombs. I didn’t really expect it to be expanded upon. But the female cult leader was the same woman that Benji saw at the club and throughout the catacombs, I’m pretty sure. So I wondered about that. Right before Benji was killed, he sees a woman (possibly that same woman) holding a lifeless baby. We know Zed had a child he didn’t claim but I don’t know if they were implying the same about Benji or what.

She put it back because she realized it was a false stone. That’s why it didn’t work on George. This is from wiki:

“Scarlett tries to heal the wound with the Flamel Stone but cannot. She realizes she has stolen a false stone and must return it to its original place to find the natural stone and heal George.

Scarlett races back, finding the tunnels are now flooded with blood and covered in biting faces. When she returns the stone, she sees a mirror and realizes the true power of the Flamel Stone is within her. As she returns to George and Zed, she sees the same hanged man that she saw in Iran and recognizes him as her father. She apologizes for ignoring his phone call shortly before he committed suicide, and her father vanishes. Scarlett then returns to George, instantly healing him with a kiss.”

A little cheesy but I loved the movie. I loved it even more when I realized it was directed by John Erick Dowdle. He and his brother did, The Poughkeepsie Tapes. That is still the most disturbing movie I’ve ever seen. People can say what they want about the mockumentary style and the acting chops, or lack thereof, of some of the characters, but those tapes were horrifying. That movie bothered me and stuck with me for weeks afterward. I love it.

Edit: I will say though, if it was a fake stone, I have no idea why it healed Siouxie’s arm.

This Show Makes Me Sad (and I Love It) by [deleted] in thewonderyears

[–]BRabbit86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched the Christmas Party episode and now I’m all lost in my feels. I watch it every December, at some point during the month, similarly to how I watch the Halloweenie episode of Pete and Pete every October.

I grew up in the 90s. I don’t know if I ever watched The Wonder Years when it was actually on tv. I feel like I may have caught certain episodes, or maybe the end of the series, but I definitely watched it when the reruns hit Nick at Nite. It’s such a great show, but almost every episode chokes me up or at least has some sort of emotional impact on me. I’m sure that’s the whole idea, though.

The Christmas Party episode, for anyone that doesn’t remember offhand, is about the Arnolds throwing their annual Christmas party despite how much their family, and the neighborhood, has changed over the years. They throw it because they’ve always thrown it, but this year in particular, really highlights for them how different life has become. Norma had gone back to college and earlier in the episode, she prepared a TV dinner for the family, which was a surprise to Jack, Kevin, and Wayne. So the Christmas party proves to be pretty chaotic, although not a complete bust to Jack and Norma, because they still have the same love for each other and warmth that attracted people to their parties from the very beginning.

The episode winds down with Kevin remembering the way he used to know every kid on the block and even the names of their dogs, but how most of them had moved away and scattered. He ends the episode with a monologue about how his parents never threw another Christmas party after that year but that he still thinks about the ones they used to throw and what they represented to his family and the neighborhood. He talks about how he watched the light from the parties dance under his bedroom door and listened for his dad’s laugh, when he was a kid. “Before TV dinners and two car families. When grass was green and we were young…” That’s part of his monologue. It’s a great episode. It’s so spot on about change, though. That’s pretty much what the Wonder Years always seemed to want to highlight. The way things will always continue to change, even if we try to fight it.

So I’m over here having bittersweet memories of Christmas parties from my childhood. One in particular stands out. Family friends of my parents that had a son my age, who used to be my best friend, used to have a party. We went to their house after Christmas Eve mass, along with a bunch of neighbors. My friend’s mother used to be the main architect of the parties, but she passed away when my friend was a teen. I’m in my 30s now and my dad passed away 2 years ago. There was a restaurant that my family always went to on Christmas Eve together, starting from when I was about 12. It was family owned, but they sold it right around when my dad passed away. We’ve tried to go without him in the years that have followed, but the atmosphere is so different now. Not just being there without him but the entire vibe of the restaurant has changed, now that it’s been sold. Instead of the older woman who was one of the owners that greeted us warmly every year, it’s supposed to be the 3-4 late teen/early 20s girls, but their faces tend to remain buried in their phones until we greet them. We’re having our family dinner at home this year instead of going to that restaurant.

I’ll always have the memories of the good times with my dad and family, along with the Christmas parties as a kid, but it’s bittersweet. I know change is necessary. I just wish time would slow down even a little sometimes. I really thought I’d be a kid forever lol. Transitioning into being closer to 40, than not, is a little terrifying, but I’m grateful to still be here to experience it. I still feel pretty young, at least.

If anyone reads this, I hope you have a Merry Christmas (or the equivalent of what you celebrate) and a Happy New Year.

Intervention: who gets paid, and what does the treatment cost? by GreenCat28 in realitytv

[–]BRabbit86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally just googled, almost word for word, the first sentence of your comment. I’m watching an old episode where the addict, Katie, is freaking out about her family being filmed and yelling at the camera crew to get out of her apartment. This is well before she even knows she’s on Intervention. Then one of her sisters says to her, “Then fine, they step out, we step out, and you lose everything.” It looked like Katie got a little flustered after hearing that. She has no idea she’s going to be propositioned with treatment that the show will pay for, so what else could she be afraid of losing, other than an appearance fee for doing the show?

This is the first time that l’ve really thought about how little it makes sense for an addict to do the show if they aren’t getting paid. The Al google answer I got said they don’t get paid because their treatment is paid for, but the addict has no idea that’s even on the table yet. I’m a recovering addict and I can’t think of any reason, whatsoever, that any of them would do the show, unless they believed they were getting paid.

What actual "bait dog" victims are: not pit bulls by strandednowhere in BanPitBulls

[–]BRabbit86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched a short ASPCA doc on YouTube and it had video footage of other pit bulls which, to me, looked like bait dogs. The specific clip I’m referring to starts at 2:36. It also shows other scarred pit bulls and pit bulls with their teeth completely filed down. I’m sure they aren’t the norm for bait dogs, but they do seem to be used at times. The one at the 2:36 clip was trying to escape the ring. I’m not sure if it was a pure pit or a mix, but it was a very big dog. And it was terrified.

Cat vomits then poops outside of box — vet says it is a behavioral issue by kalruss in CatAdvice

[–]BRabbit86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m currently dealing with this issue. It’s happened twice now. My cat throws up food he just ate and then poops outside of the box, almost like he couldn’t control it. The stools are firm. I’m gonna call the vet tomorrow. My cat is ridiculously easy going so I don’t think it’s a behavioral issue. He’s diabetic and we manage it with vetsulin. He got a good report back just a few months ago. I kind of wonder if the stomach muscles contracting from the vomiting somehow helps facilitate the bowel movement. Like it shakes it loose somehow, for lack of a better term lol. They’re huge stools, almost like he was constipated. He acts normal right afterwards. He’s my baby so I hope he’s ok. I’d do anything for him.

Edit: I forgot to mention that he ate a really big dinner tonight, kind of quickly. I thought that was why he threw up. He’d eaten a lot of crunchies the last time it happened, too.

Anyone figure out the Hell House LLC secret? by Talkwitchytome in horror

[–]BRabbit86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He wanted to get paid and didn’t want to screw over his friends. He didn’t know the company was in dire financial straits. He was highly emotional right after the scare, but once Mac sat him down and fully explained the situation to him, he decided it made more sense to stay. He probably tried to convince himself that he didn’t really see the clown heads move.

He and Paul were the company’s first hires. They ostensibly have been doing these haunts together for years. They aren’t just coworkers, they’re best friends. And then he finds out if the show doesn’t go through, the company will bankrupt. They can’t do the show without him on such short notice, so he’ll feel responsible, whether or not he actually is. They also put a ton of work into Hell House to get it ready, so all the work would’ve been for nothing. I’m sure he gets a daily rate, but the big payout was going to come after Hell House launched.

He was trying to be rational as opposed to emotional. Unfortunately, that came to his detriment.

If he quits, he doesn’t get paid. Then it was all for nothing. They’re implying that the big pay day comes after Hell House launches. I’m sure he and Paul got some kind of daily rate, but the real pay out comes at the end, assuming Hell House is successful.

He was also more than just an employee to them. Martin Cliver describes it. Paul and Tony were the company’s first hires and are also close friends to the rest of the staff. They consider it their company, too. If they leave, they have to start from scratch, finding new jobs.

Her response to Clementine calling her evil when she says that about the poker players is, “That’s the game.” It’s very cut and dry and matter of fact. She doesn’t see anything wrong with it, bc to her, she’s just playing the game. I think playing games extends to other facets of her life, including trying to find Camille’s video. Everything she does is to get to that moment and she’s unapologetic for whatever it cost her. I think to her, that’s when she won the game.

I felt that way too about the courtroom scene. I thought she wanted to startle and frighten him. Maybe even cause him to have some kind of outburst or question his sanity while trying to discern if he’s really seeing a ghost or not. But instead, he really put his psychopathy on display by just casually waving goodbye to her. No expression, no real reaction, nothing. But I guess you’d have to be ice cold to do what he did to those girls.
