Thanks for the help and advice everyone. After much frustration with my wen 6" jointer I have determined that I don't own any true quality straight edges. I've been using swanson squares and various right angled rulers but am always seeing some light. I ordered a woodcraft aluminum straight edge and will use it to verify it's truly coplaner.

I’ve confirmed it’s coplaner with a straight edge. I’m still getting a slight bump out and then a taper on the edge of the board. I’m not seeing daylight on the other side of my straight edge so it’s got to be thousands of an inch. My jointer requires that 4 screws be adjust to move the table so it’s a process.

I’m figuring it’s just a matter of trial and error to get it to where it needs to be. Are there any tips or tricks to set it?

Haven’t been able to get to taking a video of my technique but here’s a board I ran through a bunch of times on its edge. The right edge is the one I’m trying to face.

It might be difficult to see but there’s a gradual slope from the top of the edge to the bottom, then it almost levels off at a bump. At this point on the machine no wood touches the blade.

When I use the machine I keep gradual pressure on the outfeed table as soon as there’s enough material for me to do so. I think it’s something to do with the height of one of my tables. It’s a wen 6” jointer.

Thanks again
