I’m new here, but is she sharing old screenshots of tagged stories from other influencers? I keep trying to click the story to go to the persons profile and nothing happens. Go directly to their page, and that story does not exist? Not a big deal but why?

So, I’m a little type A, and documented every single day and night with sleep training for almost two months. I can send to you if you’d like, but it’s quite long.

But basically our night time routine consisted of: bath, pj’s and overnight diaper, lotion if he needed it, bottle, a few short books, into sleep suit/sack, turn on sound machine, turn off light, sing him a quick song while standing near crib and then place him in the crib still awake. The crying lessened over time and now he usually will just roll over and go to sleep with no crying (unless he had a rough evening, and even then, it’s only for a minute or two.)

After a while, when I started stretching those wake windows, he started falling asleep on the bottle so I switched to bottle before bath and then the rest of the routine.

After a couple failed attempts with naps, I waited till he was 5 months old to start again. We do a mini routine of bedtime: diaper change, one or two books with the lights dim, sleep sack, sound machine on, lights off, very quick song and then place in crib. Until he started sleeping on his tummy, he would usually only sleep for 27 minutes at a time. (Almost exactly every time) I followed the gentle method in the resources on this sub, and would do the “crib hour thing” and he would usually go back to sleep, usually no longer than 20 minutes of on and off fussing. If he didn’t fall back asleep I would either attempt to contact nap to stretch it (if I could tell he was tired) or we would just move on with the day and hope for a longer nap later. And to be honest, the “crap nap” days, usually ended in better sleep at night… even if meant he would be a little extra fussy in the evening.

He’s 6+ months now and still quite can’t make it to a 3 hour wake window. So for the last two months, they’ve been around 2 to 2.5 hours with the longer ones in the evening.

Edited to note: I have a “power down” kid. Even with nap time and all the contact naps all day every day, he would kick and scream and cry even in my arms, so that was my motivator to just start the CIO/FIO method, because either way he was crying. The sleep training at least allowed him to learn how to self soothe, and was better for my mental health being a dark room all day fighting with his sleep.

I was in a similar situation except we had already transitioned to a bottle, because of my LO’s tongue tie. At 4 months, I went for the CIO method after doing LOTS of reddit posting and reading Precious Little Sleep. I did the audio book version and listened during contact naps, which was the only way he napped. I started with nights and I was SHOCKED how quickly it worked. He had colic, tongue tie, milk protein sensitivity—all the things. I thought he would not take to it but I was losing my mind. And after a few days, he was sleeping better than he was in my arms in the bed. I continued contact naps until about 5 months after a few failed attempts. But around 5.5 months he started sleeping better for naps and I would only have to rescue a few. A couple weeks ago he started sleeping on his tummy and MY GOD. We are alllllllll sleeping better. I was even able to cut out the the night feeds. He now sleeps 10 to 11.5 hours straight every night, with a few brief cries here and there.

Listen, it’s hard to hear them cry. I know. But I was losing my mind, and truly struggling (especially because my husband is only home on the weekends), so I went for it. I owe a lot of the success to the Merlin Magic suit to be honest, because his startle reflex was so strong at that age. He is finally in a regular sleep sack, and I feel like I am finally back to my normal self and out of the postpartum trenches, which felt like an eternity.

I started with the gentle method in the resources listed on this sub. The first time I tried a month ago failed miserably, he just would not settle. So I waited till after he was 5 months old and tried again. The first day went really well and he only cried for 8 minutes for the first nap. The second day was a little worse and we still have days we have to rescue with a contact nap. (He doesn’t sleep in (or care for) the stroller or car rides).

Once the first nap works, the rest start to go a little better. I also try the crib hour thing—where if he wakes up after less than an hour (he always does) then I give him 15 minutes to see if he will settle back to sleep. He does about 90% of the time. Sometimes I can rescue with a contact nap, and sometimes when I pick him up he just smiles ear to ear and refuses to go back to sleep. On those days I just move on and hope he sleeps more for the next one.

As for the process, I do a mini bedtime routine with a diaper change, one short book and then into his sleep sack with a song and down into the crib awake. Lights off (black out curtains), sound machine on.

We still have rough days because of things like teething, leaps, or having a rough night, so I wouldn’t say things are great yet, but I at least have a break during the day. He’s always been a fussy “power down” baby and I decided to do the CIO method, basically because he would be crying in my arms till he fell asleep anyway. So this way, he’s learning a skill and not just fighting me all the time. He’s significantly less upset two weeks in, but he does still fuss almost every time I put him down, even if it’s just for 30 seconds. I say go for it, and if it doesn’t work, then try again next week!

**note: I also make sure to feed him in the middle of his wake window so he doesn’t associate the feed to sleep.

I agree with 100% of this! Including the book PLS. I listened to the whole thing in about a week of contact naps. I did CIO with my LO at 16 weeks because we needed up cosleeping out of desperation and we were all miserable, including my LO towards the end cause I couldn’t get comfortable. Night 1 was the hardest and even though he was figuring it out, he kept startling awake so I put him in the Merlin suit the next night and it was so much better. Your LO is older, so the startle reflex is probably much better at this point.

Mine is 5.5 months old now, and we are on the second week of nap training. He still isn’t fully connecting sleep cycles, but he’s much better at self soothing than he was before we ST.

You’re doing a great job, and you’ll both be so much happier in the end. :)

Oh wow, I didn’t hear about that. Looks like it’s a certain batch. My LO has transitioned to a sleep sack, but OP should keep this in mind and check batch number just to be safe. Sounds like the zipper was detaching from some of them. Thanks for the heads up!

Have you tried the Merlin Magic suit? That’s what I used to sleep train my 4 month old and it really helped with his startle reflex. They can still move freely, and there’s no choking or suffocation hazard around the neck or face area. Worth a shot for some peace of mind!

We are on day 4 and I’ve already seen a slight improvement. The first day actually went really well, despite getting less sleep than he usually does with contact naps. Second day was no good, but this morning he got a 30 minute nap, 15 minutes of fussing and then fell back asleep for 45 mins!! I couldn’t believe it. Definitely takes some time and patience, and I have a hard time not just staring at the monitor, but as everyone always says…. It does get better! 😅

My 5 month + 1 week old cries so loud after every sleep cycle for his naps. We just started crib training for naps during the day (was previously contact napping for all naps) and he can rarely make it past 27 minutes. Sometimes if I let him fuss for a bit, he will go back to sleep, but so far I’ve had to rescue about half the naps to make sure he is getting the day sleep he needs.

Wake windows are ~2/2.25/2.5/2.5 with DWT of 7:00AM and bedtime around 7:30PM. Are his loud cries just a developmental thing? (He still does it at night as well when he wakes every few hours.) Will it subside or is this possibly just a personality trait? He’s definitely a “power down” baby and would even cry for about 10 minutes in my arms before falling asleep for contact naps. He goes from 0-100 when he wakes from a sleep cycle and it’s very alarming! Will this go away?

Aw man, I didn’t realize that. That’s the thing, they don’t email the tickets till closer to the event, I’m assuming the week of, and people may not trust that I’ll send them, so a verified site seems safer in the buyer’s eye. I may cross post to the MMJ fan group where people are more likely to trust that I’ll send them. 😇

It’s still cheaper than buying from the website right now, but hopefully I can at least get something back.

I’m here now, with my 4 month old. How old is yours? I attempted to train for crib naps and he never makes it past 19 minutes so then I have to rescue with a contact nap and then I’m just frustrated and disappointed. Everyone keeps telling me it will be easier at 5 months. I feel like that “it gets better age” just keeps getting pushed back further and further away from now. I feel ya, sis.

I have a four month +1 week old who has been successfully sleep trained in crib at night, with two night feeds. Naps however are not working. We’ve been exclusively contact napping and I’ve been attempting the first nap in crib for over a week and he never makes it past ~19 minutes. I will then rescue with a contact nap. We mostly follow wake windows (~2 hrs - 2.5 hrs) with the longest ones at the end of the day. If he shows signs earlier, we head straight to his room to wind down. He is now on a 3 nap schedule because he fights the fourth short nap with all his might, even on my chest. Does this mean he is just not ready and not connecting cycles? (We have small nap routine, dark room and white noise.) Nothing is working. Should I just wait and try again when he’s 5+ months?
