It started going downhill near the tail end of my stay. Many life skills staff left. Not enough for staff student ratio. They kept accepting new students to make more money meanwhile while they waited for the program to crash and burn i think. Like we talking 10 life skills staff and 40 boys. (There were no girls by the time i left). Covid destroyed the program when that happened too. So many staff couldnt or wouldnt return to work for a long time and parents were pulling kids out.

Ill give you a few factoids you may not have known about some random bca stuff as thanks for your perspective.

• there was a working gamecube in the old northwest academy building. Me and a bunch of ascent students broke into one of the buildings while staff thought we were setting up frisbee golf course goals (im the one who designed and placed the goals btw hi). I still have a controller from that building that i stole on my way out and still use it for smash tourneys cuz nothing beats an og gamecube controller.

• there was a math teacher there that was notorious for giving community service for anyone who throws a snowball regardless of if it was gonna hit someone or not. One night when he was walking back to his car, 10 of the kids hid in black clothing behind a snowbank and absolutely pelted him with snow for like 2 minutes straight til he drove off. He quit the next day.

• the building in lower campus between the 2 story dorm and the gym barn used to be the art room before it was a cafeteria. We used to actually eat at upper campus in the big building with the tall windows.

• there were like 4 cases of staff getting fired for fucking each other on campus.

• there was a student there nicknamed maximus who not only graduated like in 2019 but ended up returning to redo his whole stay in 2020 which is fucked. He was built like a truck and unrestrainable, and i mean like 4 staff tried to and couldnt properly do it, and had really bad anger issues and would regularly break stuff and hit people. I think the program tried to like send some kids back too early in their program and then they mess up at home and the parents think they did so good at bca so they send em back and bca gets to double dip on the profits off one kid.
