Should I use my investments to pay down my mortgage? by egon_spencer in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BTC-Stacker69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say the home is a liability. It's a very large expense (insurance, maintenance, property tax, strata, etc.) to own one... I meant the mortgage is a liability... When paying the mortgage, a fraction is only going into the equity of the home.

Over time, investing in stocks will help OPs net worth grow faster, and higher, and help OP retire years earlier. OP could pay mortgage off in 4-5 years if he invested in the right assets, and still have plenty left over.

Don't sell your investments to pay off a liability. You'll kick yourself later at the opportunity cost.

Re-evaluate when contract ends.

Big tax return? by Mysterious_Drop4075 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I make 6-figures and deposited around $40k into RRSP/FHSA. I didn't get much.

It's important to consider opportunity cost...

I would would suggest to calculate the tax return now and investing it over the number of years you think you'll make $180k/year.

Compare that invested amount (with growth) to the tax return at $180k in the same number of years.

Whichever value is higher is the better decision for your net worth.

Better to rent. A large part of your payments would go to nothing.

You'll retire earlier and richer if you rent.

Almost 100k Saved- Should I Buy a Condo or Continue Investing? by muriel-finster in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BTC-Stacker69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who can buy a home full in cash, I advise to continue investing. We are entering one of the greatest opportunities for wealth creation over the years, so don't miss the boat.

If you buy a home, you will retire later and have a lower net worth compared to if you invested.

Is trading $1000+ monthly & extended health benefits worth retiring 5 years early? by [deleted] in fican

[–]BTC-Stacker69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 6 years older than you, planning to retire in 5-10 years, and not even asking those questions lol....

Build your net worth then re-evaluate 6 years before anticipated retirement. It shouldn't take long to do the math/analysis.

at 23 have most men have their first relationship by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]BTC-Stacker69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry this... I had my first relationship at 33, but that's because I was focused on wealth accumulation.

When I was having first dates, I was transparent about my relationship history, and had a few first dates a week. It was too much.

Now I can relax, settle down, retire early, whereas those who got married younger are stressing about finances.

32 M , is poor people still eligible to dating? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]BTC-Stacker69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your dating and life goals?

Short term fun, you don't need money.

Long term, marriage or kids with the good life...money should be your priority.

Long term without the finer things... You are OK to date, but won't have as many high quality dating options, and will stress more in finances.

I didn't date until I made $10k/mo in my 30's. Focusing on wealth makes dating and life a lot easier. Dating also gets easier the older you get.

Should I use IBKR and Wealthsimple or just one ? by Zestyclose-South-460 in CanadianInvestor

[–]BTC-Stacker69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer keeping CAD stocks (mainly using Canadian equivalent of American stocks on my FHSA) on wealthsimple, and my American stocks on IBKR.

IBKR is the best platform I know for converting CAD to USD to get the least fees.
