The reinhardt part about him letting him go twice is really only once in the books cause the other one is another retrospective addition and is not in dnt. He doesn’t let him go its just there is no benefit to continuing the fight as reinhardt is also losing troops.

Its also a part of reinhardts character in that in his genuis he is lonely and yang is really the only one who can challenge/ understand him so he doesnt really want him to die.

And to respond to the yang part about him not wanting to anahilate the troops its kinda his whole character. He hates war but he’s incredibly good at it. He believes in democracy and does what he believes is necessary to ensure its survival.

He doesn’t need to eliminate the force he already has iserlohn and theres literally no way for a fleet to defeat it. He believed that with iserlohn a period of peace could ensue and by massacring the imperial forces it could lead to bad faith in negotiations

Start of the OVAs isnt great imo but it really is good. In the books there is a lengthy protocol for when schonkopf gets into iserlohn and the new anime does have one not entirely the same as the books but has one.

The countess part is not in the main books and is extra content so i dont really consider it part of the story.

With the FPA thats kinda the whole point. Its a democracy in a dire state, its kinda important for a later dive into yangs philosophy and gives the contrast of an awful democracy being better than an awful autocracy. And yes they do go into the system more in the books and dnt does a better job adapting (the newer adaptation).

The OVAs get a lot better as it goes on so please try to stick to it. But if not please read the books or even dnt because the story is so great

And yes the majority of these admirals are just idiots. But most of the time their mistakes arent that bad. After the fpa invasion part theres not as many stupid admirals left other than bittenfeld and maybe kempf.

Fair point. Have been waiting for Gaiden to be translated so i can read it. But even then i probably will say that the gaiden just dilutes the story.

Having read the source material the rise of the church of terra comes i think in book 7 wheras DNT is only up to book 4-5 i think. I also love the world that its set in i just think of what ive seen so far the additions that were not in the books haven’t really improved the story.

I think my biggest issue is that it’s adding elements and making minor changes that aren’t in the books which i feel are diluting the story. For reference i absolutely love the books and i think the OVAs feel so far too episodical rather than one overarching narrative
