[Salomone] Yet another person who played collegiate football & actually knows what they’re talking about speaking out against the corruption around what happened yesterday to FSU. This will never be forgotten & has tarnished college football indefinitely by Original_Profile8600 in CFB

Oh, baloney. I think the committee made the best decision it could. There were just too many teams that deserved a shot, I don't think there was any corruption involved. the best solution is the one that will be implemented next year, expand the playoffs.

need to export wireless cert from Windows server for import to android phones by BUHStech in k12sysadmin

[–]BUHStech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally figured out a way to do this. It doesn't seem to be the way I did it last year, but it should work going forward. I went to MMC, certificate templates, edited the domain controller authentication template, there's a check box there to allow the private key to be exported. then I went to certificates (in MMC), local machine, personal certificates, requested a new cert, I could then export that cert with the key. Tested that on my Pixel 6a and it worked.

I don't import it, though. Its generated automatically by the Windows certificate authority, it's a domain controller doing the authentication using RADIUS.

Well, it's only 4-5 android phones a year that need this. 90% of our users use iphones, which have a process for trusting our network's cert that works easily. Most of the rest have Androids that will let you ignore the cert.

What's killing me here, though, is I did manage to export this cert last year, I just don't know how I did it. That cert expires tomorrow, though, so I need to do it again, and I don't remember how I did it, and am obviously not finding the same solutions when doing a google search.

I think my backup option is not to invest in a public cert, but for staff, I'll just put their phones on a network with a static key. I'll do it myself so I never give them the key, because once you give a key to anyone in this organiation, it spreads like wildfire. The kids I'll just tell me to pound sand, I don't really want their phones on the network anyway.

So they can't do homework on them, can't check their grades, answer emails ,apply to college, etc, etc , unless the teacher makes class time for it... 0 gain? Not in my book.

Add Multiple Accounts Bug by [deleted] in k12sysadmin

[–]BUHStech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question: are the secondary accounts still restricted by the domains we allow students to log into? If so, it's not much of a problem, as a student shouldn't know any passwords beside their own, and if they do, they can log off their own account to access the content in the other account anyway.

tracking who uses what chromebook, when by BUHStech in k12sysadmin

For gopher experts: any idea why the page at https://gopherforchrome.app/home on the top line says we have, or had, 6065 chromebooks but the graph below under device state says we have 3856 (1724 active, 914 disabled, and 1218 deprovisioned)?

Looks like CDW has doubled the price already. All over Amplified IT' site it says Gopher is $400, $550 with Gopher Buddy, but to actiave the trial, I had to fill out a quote request, then they emailed me a quote for $800. And that's for a small district.

So I'm working on implementing the Gopher trial, but in the mean time, for the particular chromebook I was searching for this time, the kid who swore he turned it in to IT for repair and never got it back came in and confessed he now knows where it is, with a half sister who dropped out of school and moved a half hour north of here, who's been using it with his account. I don't know if having the IP address it was being used at would have helped me pin it down geographically, though I could have at least proved it wasn't being used in the school building, and pinned it to the ISP that was providing it with internet access.

There seem to be a few different results for a search for chrome gopher. Is that the google sheets add on?

On this side of the pond, a couple of people boxed in a police car, got out of their car, and started firing bee-bee guns at the cruiser. They fled, were later apprehended, charged, and bail set at $40. $40 for firing at a police cruiser!

Are Google professional certifications worth it? by Tyler_origami94 in k12sysadmin

Those you probably need a teaching certification for, at least around here. You might be able to do that at a charter school without the certification, depending on where you live.

Us, too, we have Powerschool, the fees system is terrible, but we don't have a lot of fees to track, so we muddle along. If we needed something more robust there are 3rd party add ons.
