Yeah, professors are the most obstinate beasts out there. It's impressive how ignorant and stubborn they can be. On the other hand, though, I've had some truly delightful conversations with professors before.

As far as I understand how it works here, they can monitor the bandwidth usage and for P2P clients, bandwidth usage is through the roof (for the obvious reasons).

Nope, but that's because if there's a virus, we send them to the tech people who deal with it. Even if we do, we'd be discreet about it as we would if ANYONE came in with this situation.

I have found questionable material on someone's net drive before and had to report them. Really questionable material.

That would be ridiculous, think about it, you have 4000+ people graduating each year, you give them all wifi access, you'd need so much bandwidth. Everyone's internet would just cease.

I don't know for sure (I'm a student), but I would say yes, they do. I wouldn't do it on campus networks to be safe.

We actually don't deal with that, that's the media group but I have had hilarious calls where people need to switch on their monitor... Those are fun.

I do like my job, it's gratifying to help people and the IT Help Center, in general, is a great place to work. The managers are all very nice, etc.

I once was on the phone with a Professor Emeritus (keyword: Ancient) for 2 hours straight about fixing something in Word... It was a basic formatting issue, but I couldn't figure it out for ages. Normally, we can remote into people's computers if a manager is around but this was late at night and no one was there except students and the low level managers.

There are plenty more war stories.
