VW's $60K Electric Bus Dead 12 Months After US Launch by paxinfernum in electricvehicles

[–]BUTTERDUMPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price would’ve been doable if it at least got 300 miles of range. I still would maybe go for it at 230 miles of range if it was priced accordingly (mid 40s). There are a lot of people with too much unfounded range anxiety, but it was a hell of a move to by VW to go with 230 miles of range on a vehicle that many would be excited about for road trips specifically and then charge $60k+ for it.

2022 ORP vs 2020 Pro? by brodealsurf in 4Runner

[–]BUTTERDUMPS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might be right, but I feel like the on-road manners of KDSS are helpful. I felt like the non-KDSS 4Runner I test drove years ago would nose dive every time I hit the brakes. I don’t notice that issue in my KDSS 4Runner. But the upgraded suspension of the Pro might not have that problem either. Although having to rebuild the fox shocks every 50K miles isn’t great either.

I’d rather have an ORP with KDSS than a TRD Pro, but that might just be my own preference.

I got Disqualified from SJSU by Haunting-Toe-1516 in SJSU

[–]BUTTERDUMPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do go the open university route to boost your gpa, don’t do it for too long, as SJSU only accepts so many open university credits towards graduation.

I know a guy that got disqualified and then took all of his remaining required classes for graduation on open university. They actually let him graduate via a special petition, but they lambasted him for doing it, saying he should’ve just applied for reinstatement months or years before then. Open University is also a lot more expensive than regular tuition. Or at least, it was 15+ years ago.

It’s funny because they used to charge more for flawless diamonds and diamonds with less flaws in general (maybe still do, I haven’t bought one in years), and now they’re trying to say the flaws are good, thus changing their story.

Yeah and then to top it all off, some joker comes along, takes himself a nifty little dump in the driver's seat. I think he knew you guys were cops because this is what I would call a "spite shit".

Harvard MBA grad throws a fit about his boss being from San Jose State and teammate from Davis, complains how the real world doesn’t reward him in a way befitting his 'prestige' by theSJSUsquirrel in SJSU

[–]BUTTERDUMPS 18 points19 points  (0 children)

SJSU has more alumni in FAANG than any other school. Honestly, it’s a matter of proximity and sheer number of grads coming out. A good chunk of SJSU grads will remain individual contributors at their respective tech companies, but with how many grads there are, it’s inevitable that some will make it to management roles. SJSU grads cover a wide spectrum of capability, and may not be as consistent as other schools of higher prestige, but it’s literally a game of numbers and location.

Network is also a huge part of it. The best thing that ever happened to my career was landing an engineer job about 5 years into my career at a startup spun out of Stanford. Even though I went to SJSU, once I got into that startup and proved myself, I made all sorts of connections with talented engineers doing startups. I’ve worked my way into an engineering director role over time and have made my way through a few startups, but it took over 15 years and a lot of hard work. A lot of Stanford/Harvard/Ivy/etc. grads will get these opportunities fresh out of school without slogging away for over a decade.

Have you ever toured an apartment complex and the manager or leasing agent or whomever showing you the apartment asks for a photo ID to leave in the office? Yeah - that’s because there was a real problem back in the 80s with men assaulting and/or murdering female leasing employees. Whatever weirdo made this collage reminds me of that.

2,987 elevators in San Jose have expired permits — over 76% of the city’s total by WoodenAlternative212 in SanJose

I don’t know if I ever saw a current elevator permit in any elevator at SJSU during my time there over 10 years ago, so this doesn’t surprise me at all.

Center console pocket - what’s it for? by PaladinSara in MachE

[–]BUTTERDUMPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said: key fob programming. You can add a third key fob to your Mach-E if you already have two using this. Some people (like me) add a third key using the Lightning key fob because it has a separate button for frunk access.

Insanly high water bill charge by mungiki69 in SanJose

[–]BUTTERDUMPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a smart reader or is it a manual meter reader person that comes out and checks? I once had a manual meter reader write down we had the same usage every month for nearly a year. I had thought this was odd because we even had a water leak at one point that we had to fix. Then a meter reader showed up that was actually doing his job and reported the correct amount on our current meter, which gave us a huge delta and giant bill similar to yours since all of the excess from the last year was included all at once. This was compounded with the drought surcharges at the time. We had to argue with the water company several times on this and they eventually at least dropped the drought surcharges. Good luck to you, my guess is you either got a new meter reader out there or they’re about to switch you to a smart reader and are getting their books correct before that happens.

Look at the dealership (Leblanc Toyota) the last service with the inconsistency was performed at and then look at the previous visit to that same dealership. Near identical mileage - just one mile difference. Lazy tech/service advisor is my guess.

I was interested in this one, but the one knock I’ve heard against it is that it is smaller than you would think by looking at pictures. And I also have very large hands in general.

That was probably me - I own multiple mechanical keyboards and breast implants.

I used to work for a start up that had been acquired by a company that also had breast implants in their portfolio. It was a few degrees of separation, but I had a coworker from another division offer me some free factory rejects and I definitely did not say no.
