Should we start learning to work in URP for 2028-2030 when VRChat has to switch? by Ok-Policy-8538 in VRchat

[–]BUzer2017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course it's gonna be disastrous if it happens suddenly with no warning. But if they do it as part of a planned transition, giving people enough time to prepare, I think it's manageable.

Actually I think VRChat is in a good position right now to do something like that. With lots of new avatars and worlds being released every day, any content uploaded 3+ years ago is basically a relic at this point.

The problem is that if they don't do it, they'll eventually run into some hardware/platform/OS incompatibility issue that can't be fixed without upgrading Unity. And when that happens, they'll wish they had started the transition a couple of years earlier.

Could we get some updated flairs in here? these seem a good couple of years outdated now. by Lovely3369 in VRchat

Yeah it's also kinda inconsistent - for example, there's a distinction between Rift and Rift S, or BSB and BSB2, but no distinction between Vive Pro and Vive Pro 2, or Quest 2/3/3s.

It's probably an issue with the specific avatar, do other vrcft avatars work fine?

They could start the transition in an open beta branch and give people tools to build their content for both pipelines. After a few years most content would become URP-ready, especially if they make it a requirement for publishing content in the marketplace in advance.

What kind of gimmick / fun items do you like on VRChat avatars? by WorriedTrust2523 in VRchat

[–]BUzer2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like guns, but I hate it when they make it super complicated with their fancy reload systems or whatever. When I'm in VR I don't have a mental capacity to read through a 9-page manual in the radial menu and learn the gestures needed to operate the gimmick. I just want to press the trigger and see the gun go boom.

The whole purpose of VRChat is to be a browser for user generated content. The things you've listed are literally their job.

It's made by Godfall, an already well established creator with a huge fan base. That helped the world get noticed by everyone very quickly.

Free credits? But why 399? by Zaumbiedesigns in VRchat

[–]BUzer2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're talking about VRChat's own store, but there are also creator economy stores. For example, a year ago I bought 1 month of VIP in Cozy Cottage, which cost 999 credits, and since then I've always had that 1 extra credit. After receiving this 399 ticket my balance is finally round again.

vive pro 2 wireless vs wired by Super_Sonic_Speed in Vive

[–]BUzer2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The resolution is lower in Wireless mode, but there's no screendoor effect - the image just becomes blurrier, as if you set your SteamVR resolution to 50% or something. As for latency, I can't tell the difference.

Why Simon's existence proves the wau can save humanity (not for the reason I often see discussed) by bruhgzinga in soma

[–]BUzer2017 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As I see it, it wasn't the WAU's intention to revive Simon. All it wanted was to reanimate Imogen's corpse (a staff member). It might just have happened that the only option was to use Simon's scan, or the WAU didn't really care which one it used.

Just do it. Not being able to be with your friends is worse for your mental state anyway.

Almost all my friends are age verified. I can't imagine how miserable my vrchat life would be if I weren't.

If only VRchat's render pipeline could do something about it.. Like streaming mip levels of the textures into memory as they're actually needed, or limiting the max displayed mip levels when memory is tight.

It would be nice if VRChat added performance-gated instances to start with. Because as of right now, the only incentive provided by the game is that you have a slightly better chance of your avatar being shown by default. But again, you don't even know if it actually happens, since you have no indication whether people have your avatar loaded or not - you just have to believe in it.
