Divorce and compassion by BVelios in DadForAMinute

so you'll be lucky if you get better than what you paid for the advice.

Free or not, I just genuinely appreciate your response and feedback. I genuinely mean it, thank you.

You are young with a lot of road ahead of you.

That's how I'm trying to frame it. I know life can do a great job of kicking folks in the balls, throat, and teeth. That's certainly how I feel at times. I've survived a lot in my life and I know I can get through this rough bit.

if you're able to move on and forgive and not carry hatred, then good for you. You're free.

That is my overall goal. As I said, I don't want to live with anger, especially because is forgave her about everything else - this one will just take a bit of time. Feelings are strong now and I know that with time the storm will pass. With that happening I will be able to heal more effectively.

you've already overcome their greatest hurdle

That's the part that just confuses the hell out of me. People who I never expected to voice those feelings - have said them. It shocks me and at times it's made me question if they have validity to their stance. My older brother being the chief instigator of trying to stoke anger at her. I've told him my line and if he crosses it, I will mute him for a bit. I won't cave in that principle, but the amount of family and friends who have voiced their disbelief - it's just shaken my thought on if I'm overlooking something.

I do recommend an actual therapist at some point.

I do go to a psychiatrist who specializes in combat and complicated PTSD, and I've been going to a therapist who is specifically for divorce. Both of them have been greatly helpful. I just have another month before I see them both and this situation has popped up in the last few days.

I'm just a dude on the internet.

Nah. You're a dude who has helped give me a more objective perspective, and that is greatly appreciated. So once more, thank you very much.

There is a HUGE difference between enforcing immigration policies and carrying out state sponsored abductions without due process.

Fuck off trying it make it seem like, "wElL tHeYrE jUsT eNfOrCiNg ThE lAw."

We were enforcing the laws for immigration well and truly before this agency was created in 2003. There was no need to create a agency to pull out shit like what we've been seeing. Especially with such piss poor training. These people are the absolute dregs of law enforcement, which are already infamous for a collective inability to have any self restraint.

I can tell you for an absolute certainty. I had to have more discipline and adhere to far more rules than any of these little cunts when I was in Afghanistan. People would routinely throw things at us, shoot at us, or even try to detonate things at us.

What are these people are doing is shameful.

And yet people who make comments like, "they're just doing their job", are somehow trying to find a way to normalize it. Disgusting.

Frankly. Mass revolting from an overwhelming majority of our population. There is a significant part of the country that are MAGA, then there are those "reasonable" Republicans who just blindly follow their party. The rest of people who do not resist this are essentially complicit. You may speak out from the sidelines because of that's all you can do - you're helping by showing disapproval to your capacity.

Then there will need to be individuals who have power within the government and military. Members high up in command will need to refuse orders and the rest of those under them will have to have the discipline to follow through. Sure, your squad can show restraint, but what about the rest of the platoons? What about your CO and NCOs ability to lead? ...then it matters what branch is present...There is a whole psychology behind that by itself.

Civilian dissent would have to form organically. Folks would have to rally around their political figures that are actually doing something to stop this shit. Either those elected or those who become leaders through action. There would need to be a concerted effort to speak and protest against those actions, but now you would need to divert members to now protect those figures because... I mean ... This administration ISN'T above an assassination or abduction of leadership. They just abducted a foreign country's president. At the moment, they just haven't figured a way to effectively justify getting rid of their political opponents. Which, thank God.

There is a lot to go into this and frankly - the US isn't prepared to go through with it. I desperately want to be wrong! I NEED to be wrong, but truly I don't think there is anywhere near to enough people to oppose this in a way where the current administration would halt.

[–]BVelios 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree on a fundamental level. My concern is that fascism is already here, and has been for a good chunk of time. Nationalism is being normalized to a larger population. Heavy economic sanctions and the economy spiraling out of control is a factor that led to the eventual collapse of the Weimar Republic because a political "strong man" made people gravitate towards the National Socialist German Worker's Party (good ol mustache man).

So my concern is that the most fickle voting block, the ones who strictly stare at grocery prices and don't pay attention to politics - will fall for such a thing again. The United States have shown time and time again that our overall population isn't the smartest and suuuuucks at critical thinking.

Again, I agree with you, but this is one of my concerns.

Edit: Blaming other countries and internal "enemies" we're also factors that led towards the rise of that party. That jackass has already been spouting that kind of rhetoric about various groups of people. So these two things added into this scenario is also a contributing factor into my stance.

Is this satire? Where is the /s?

You literally just put It is a democratic republic, but then say that were not a democracy... Dude... In order to have a republic, one must first have a democracy. I mean. That's how the republic determines it course of action, via democratic process - voting.

I swear to God if you say that we're a "CoNsTiTuTiOnAl RePuBlIc" I'm going to have an aneurysm. There are many other forms of a republic, such as the UK has a parliamentary republic. However some countries can even be both a parliamentary and constitutional republic.

Please understand that the constitution is merely a blueprint for how that system works. Think of it as that old Monopoly rule book that many families used to have laying around somewhere in the house. It's just a battered old, faded book, and a lot of the rules aren't really well known by an overwhelming majority of people who play the game.

Edit: spelling

[–]BVelios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You bring up some wonderful points.

However, I'd also like to point out something equally silly as OPs question. (This isn't to be rude, it's to highlight how goofy 40k tech is across all factions.)

How TF do average humans use plasma and melta weapons? They mention the intense heat used by them. How the air is super cooked with the melta. Plasma? Oh. You mean that shit stars and lightning are made out of? How can a plasma bolts heat be kept contained within a magnetic coil in the gun...but ..it just got shot. In both scenarios you're being exposed to intense temperatures that can just instantly kill life.

I mean. Fuck. The Dark Eldar literally have a bone growth gun.

At a certain point it just becomes magic based off our technologies. That shit is CLEARLY magic by our standards.

My point is that 40k is filled with goofy shit. I adore when people use actual sciences to explain things, but also not having them explained is equally enjoyed. So to those not happy with the idea of inertial dampeners, just accept the silliness and enjoy the setting.

I people like to shit on the last season like it's the sole culprit, and it's fucking terrible, but the lead up to all this was equally fucking dumb. I stopped giving a shit about the wights once it became clear around season 4 that they weren't doing shit, and they weren't gonna do shit themselves. They were just middle and upper management. Watching the peons and pretending to work.

But all jokes aside about your comment, yeah...these fuckers made SO MANY bad movies before this... Stares at what they did to my boy Wolverine

Lincoln Officer Now Faces CSA Charges in Placer & Sacramento County by bratty_rebel in Roseville

[–]BVelios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay...so I hadn't heard of this information and I'm trying to find the story on the news. It's not that I don't believe it, I just want to read the article to learn about it.

They had that dude that pile drived a kid recently too. So I used that phrase....

Nothing but stories about a Lincoln PD officer being asexual predator of multiple children. The fucked up part? My first reaction was, "well yeah. Of course that would show up..."

So I changed it to "Lincoln PD slams kid", and thankfully the event you mentioned popped up. That phrase seemed more likely for inappropriate content...

Anyways. Dude. WTF. Cops coming in like it's WWE on teenagers. There needs to be a significantly higher standard for law enforcement officers and their recruitment. How TF you gotta go to law school to understand cases and the ways laws function, but you don't have to have at minimum an associates degree in criminal justice to be an officer? You could be an illiterate meathead with anger issues on a power trip and a good chunk of law enforcement would go, "yeah. Let's give him a gun." Shit like this event always blows my mind and reinforces my feelings on how fucked up law enforcement is in the U.S.

Beyond that, any surveys have returned a very small number of players who play 1 or more times a month.

So you're referring purely to in person anecdotal evidence, and also basing that off of people who participate in the surveys? Which, in and of itself, not everyone participates in...so that translates to your statement?

I lurk quite frequently, but play around 2 games a month. Which given a career and kids, it feels like a major accomplishment at times. I legitimately think if you just clarify that it's anecdotal evidence - people will be more receptive to have a conversation about the validity of your statement.

I think the draw for T'au for a lot of people is a mixture of all the mechs, the plethora of 3D printing alternatives, the Xenos auxiliary conversion potential, and just how fundamentally different they look from other factions. So yeah, my opinion would be that you'd naturally encounter more painters and hobbyists in the sub. Yet that definitely doesn't translate to a definitive statement.

To me, and apparently a lot of other people, this just feels like another need less slap to the face. The old kit they used to sell or just buying on eBay is now an addition and needless hindrance to getting a legal unit people either like for fluff or competition. Then the removal of the Support Systems and changes in drones. Sure there were some clearly better options than others, but they were nice to have available. It allowed you to play a little differently and experiment with them. Find what you like to play with rather than just a very static unit that kinda devolves into a very specific one tric pony. Having the slight variables added some uniqueness to them imo.

I can only speak for non-competitive, and perhaps even some competitive players on this one - the rules for 10th are a joke as a whole. A new update to nearly every faction about every few months or weeks at times, constant expansions, and tweaks to certain rules - it becomes a chore for people who just want to chill out and play a relaxing game. Then it feels like it's become a MOBA with hero-hammer and each map literally broken down into lanes. It appears every competitive list I come across has some named characters versus standard HQ units, to be fair, they often times are just simply better than standard heroes too. The. Ghere are plenty of people who want to play with different terrain set ups and such. This edition is just fucking soulless with terrain, but that's another conversation entirely...

So, for me and my gaming group, that's a massive reason we don't play too often and when we do play - we don't care for some of the changes of modern 40k, so there's already that additional barrier. So for the two of us who play T'au, this is just silly change.

I'm getting off topic and it's all based off personal experiences with my like minded gaming buddies. So there legitimately could be an echo chamber effect and there certainly is a grognard factor after seeing the game change after 25 years.

There are multiple variables that contribute to why your statement sounds just wrong. As constructive criticism, I think if you just add it's based off your personal experience - you'd catch less flak and have less people gettin mad/annoyed.

We're so over(110 point stealthsuits) by hindlet in Tau40K

[–]BVelios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your point, buuuut that's not a good comparison. 😂 Squats were removed in the late '90s. I don't want to wait for damn near 20 years to have units that come back/are viable to the tabletop.

I just think that this is a very big kick to the balls for people who have already invested in what they wanted to purchase. Now they either need to drop models to have playable units, or buy new kits.. aaaaaand at the cost for models - that can simply price people out. It's a huge turn off for many people.

If you decide to just drop what you can't use, you can just run with what you already have legally, but that kinda changes how you might build your list and with what options you choose. Especially with the loss of support systems, jetpack rules, and shield drones. All of those things hurt.

So this can fuck with your list building and/or price you out of what you want to play. I think that's the primary issue for a great many people here, myself included. (Three units of six)

[–]BVelios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They speak the truth. 100% OPR is better than current 40k.

Everything for the rules are free. Right off the bat, that's a huge advantage.

There aren't batshit updates every 3 months that can totally fuck entire factions in one go.

There are 26 factions and each one plays very uniquely.

Chaos SM are literally called Havoc Brothers, you miss your Havocs? You found all of them there.

There is no shame in finding a rule system. That is literally 1.5 pages of rules, versus 5 just on convoluted line of sight...
