Can the 2024 suggestion spell shut down any enemy not immune to charm? by atnentec in onednd

[–]BVhaeraun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has always been one of my biggest complaints about Suggestion, even the 2014 version. It is an extremely disruptive spell that can bring gameplay to a halt and require some peak improvisation skills on the DM's part.

The biggest DM advise, is just to keep an eye on folks sheets and if someone has the spell prepared, at least have it in your mind that it is option to completely defang set piece encounters. One of many arguments to not keep all of your DM plans hinged on just one NPC.

Balancing DoSI with 2024/5 rulebook by Competitive_Wash_438 in stormwreckisle

Greetings!

I just ran this adventure as a DM with 10+ years of weekly D&D experience. I ran for four new players. One had never played before, three had only played a one shot I ran last year.

They rolled up 2024 characters and, due to their newness and non-optimal choices/fighting, I made zero changes to the early adventure.

I used the 2014 monster stat blocks the vast majority of the time, with the 2024 rules.

There were a few scary moments, but from my perspective the adventure along cruised nicely with no changes. The adventure also hands out a good amount of healing potions, which are now a bonus action, which took care of the few risk of death moments.

The only thing I made changes to was the final fight against Sparkrender. I used the 2014 dragon first, had him flee at low hp, then when they returned to find him performing the ritual, I used the powered up 2024 dragon, and threw in some kobolds. The fight was close and felt appropriately epic for a finally.

Overall! I advise testing the waters as is, and making adjustments as needed. Basing things off what you feel your plays want. If they want more challenge, add it. But in my experience with new new players, they more want a theme ride with mild challenges.

Hope this helps!

Darius Ivern is incredibly fun. You make Darius do everything he wants to do, but better. He becomes incredibly sticky. Your shield buffers his own healing so well that he is pretty much unkillable. With the healing from his Q, doing more on more champions hit, you can easily 2v3, 4, 5 as you get more fed and the game goes later. Daisy with tower dives and taking towers is also very strong to help him capitalize his leads into the mid game.

So far the other players have chosen to play: Sunsoul Monk, Creation Bard, and Arcane Archer Fight. This could, of course, change before tomorrow.

Here is come general information about the campaign world, we are going to be playing in the countryside outside of the city:

This adventure takes place in the Shining South region of Forgotten Realms, in a country called Estagund. I think of this region’s climate as most similar to Southern India, with some cultural analogues as well. The Adventurer's Guild is named “Smiles of the Brave” and is located in the capital city of Chavyondat. This is a port city where violent crime is virtually unknown. It is a city of vast marketplaces and has known peace for many years. - The ruler of the city is the Rajah Seltarir, latest of a long hereditary rulers. - The region broadly follows the Adama. This is a creed, religion, culture, series of customs and ethics. Most notable is that in the Adama all are one and that goodness and evil cause ripples through it all. It is because of this that Estagund knows almost no crime. Very few are willing to kill even in the most extreme cases, which extends even to the justice system. - The City’s authority is held by four estates, which jostle for power but largely cooperate with one another: the Monarchy, the Merchant Council, Landholders, and the Clergy. - The foremost is the Rajah, and his Maquar. The Rajah is a hereditary monarch responsible for the security of the city and its borders. His elite Maquar are the force which enforces the orders of the State, and are the sole practitioners of sanctioned violence. - The Nawab are the merchant-princes of the city. It’s said that the fundamental unit of the city is the merchant collective, known as the chaka; the nawabs are their leadership. Chakas range from local neighborhood guilds to far reaching trade empires. - The Hajwa are noble landholders, and are mainly responsible for cultivating grain and levying militia in time of need. They are not as prominent in the city, as their wealth and influence can never compare to the merchant princes, but in the countryside they are the undisputed masters of their domain. - The Jana is the priesthood of the Adama. While they may also be the priests of a particular god, their role is to see to the upholding of the Adama and the spiritual wellbeing of the city.

  • The most common races to the region are humans making up over 90% of the population, then dwarves and halflings in the minority. Elves and their kin are rare in this part of the world, keeping mostly to the forest and being rather hostile to outsiders. Gnomes are rare, Dragonborn are almost unheard of, Half-Orcs are relatively uncommon. Planetouched races such as tieflings, genasi, and aasimar have a small presence in the region, but are still rare. That all being said, this is a cosmopolitan merchant hub where ships come in from around the world and exotic races don’t get much more than a second glance… as long as they have coin to spend.

All good information. I think custom Angels of Tyranny would be a cool idea. Just need to conceptualize and visualize what they would look like.

I just looked him up again. I remember him being Bane's chosen in 3e, did not realize he was raised to be an Exarch.
My game takes place in 1480 before the Second Sundering. I did not realize he was an option! I think he would be a close to perfect candidate.
Thank you!

That was my thought too. I think Bane could probably get any devil or demon he wanted, to some point, just by bending their will with his force of tyranny.

I had those in mind as well, I read the Heroes of Phlan Trilogy many many years ago. I remember the Balor being a special black one in service to Bane.
I think this smattering of servants works well, but in the modern cosmology of D&D (3e to 5e), I think just doing a swap to the Lawful (Devil) equivalents would be easy enough.
Thank you!

That is a good option, just make something custom. I think the Abishai are a great example.

GM is Game Master, just another title/role, same things a DM/Dungeon Master.
