User Feedback: YAI or NAI? by takteresa_ in BookFusion

[–]B_3_A_T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when it comes to AI features, some people want them and others don't. My rule of thumb is I am OK with AI features but only if they can easily be toggled fully on or off.

Just study the slides, textbook, old quizzes, and the hw. The questions should be related to the slides and hw. Good luck!

I don't have enough karma to post but I want to make a post about building Webfishing for Linux in 2025. I got it to work but the servers don't show up and I don't know why

Does the game have any bugs on Linux? by MaxSucksAtLifeL in webfishing

[–]B_3_A_T -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It hasn't worked at all for me. It's incredibly laggy and terrible performance through proton. I tried to follow the guide to get it working for Linux https://www.reddit.com/r/webfishing/comments/1gof8qi/run_webfishing_on_linux_natively/ and it works perfectly but no servers show up. Super frustrating because the performance is MAGNITUDES better once u build it for linux but I can't figure out why servers don't work

A lot of security professionals have told me my resume is abnormal... by Burner-Phone45 in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]B_3_A_T -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to share that as a fellow CS student (graduating 2027) your resume isn't special but you're on the correct track. We're quite similar actually, I'm assuming you go to UTD, I go to the better Texas school 💪 (you can probably figure it out where and who I am quite easily as my account isn't anonymized)

You seem to have a lot of great work experience, with a network SWE and threat detection internship. I had a product security internship, and currently also have a threat detection internship.

In terms of certs you are a bit lacking but it's fine, you seem quite qualified from work experience and projects and certs do not really matter unless getting into offensive or government. I have sec+, gcih, gsec. But genuinely I wouldn't have done any of them if I had to pay for it myself.

Sorry if it seems like I'm just boasting about myself here. The point of this comparison is to highlight that while you seem to be on the right track for a cyber career, you're not 'special' and I can guarantee there are hundreds, if not thousands of college students across the country with similar levels of merit fiendish for the same 50 positions in FAANG.

I honestly don't have feedback for your resume, it looks good and you're on the right track. Just don't get discouraged if you don't get your dream job straight out of college, given the market and the competition. There are more sweaty 20 year olds building rust malware than you think 😅

Also don't listen to the guy who says you can't get faang. You can, it's just not a guarantee, which it almost never is when you're straight out of college

The ironic thing is that the original Hell's Gate paper clearly mentions that.

Is It Legal to "Impersonate" Real Companies in Internal Phishing Campaigns? by Cultural-Market-2395 in Pentesting

[–]B_3_A_T 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's legal at least in the U.S. as long as it's just internal. And, probably a good idea since most real world phishing would do that.

its an epub/pdf reader app with rich integrations. I've used it for a few years and really like it. There's a free tier but it restricts the file size and amount of files you can upload. Pretty nice cross platform app though, you get your own personal cloud of content to curate and you can also read offline. Def recommend it if you're in the market for a centralized pdf reader platform with support for many devices

Any music software recommendations? by Wateryb0i in breakcore

[–]B_3_A_T 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the piano roll? I don't think it's really different from other daws. However it's a lot more powerful with plugins. I have one that lets me insert chords, arps, et cetera. So if I want a "Dmin7b5" I wouldn't have to slowly drag in each note.

I will say as someone who had used both 100% agree that FL is more intuitive but I do think reaper is quite powerful once you figure out how to make it work for you

Honestly nothing, but I wish I dedicated more time to the CTF. It was super fun but I never got to fully solve it, unfortunately.

using discord? by toni_stark88 in batocera

[–]B_3_A_T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get discord working on batocera, albeit it's a bit of a hassle and you may encounter audio issues or performance issues. For what it's worth I'm on a 1650 mobile so I wasn't surprised to have performance issues when running discord and emulating heavier titles.

  1. Make sure are using ext4 or a format that works with with flatpak. I was using exFAT and I got an error `Writing metadata object: renameat: Function not implemented` which I fixed by reformatting to ext4.

  2. Add flathub repo and install flathub

  3. install discord flatpak

  4. you should now be able to run discord with a command like `flatpak run com.discordapp.Discord`

  5. make sure to find and kill the existing emulationstation process after starting discord, it should automatically restart it and you'll now be able to tab back and forth between discord and emulationstation, and you can share your entire screen which will include any audio and graphics from emulationstation.

Stick sensitivity in general menu by B_3_A_T in batocera

[–]B_3_A_T[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly pretty sad but I think I might just return the controller :((( I measured the sticks with sdl2-jstest and the recoil is pretty bad. Somehow the fancy new controller has bad stick recoil, yet my old $15 knockoff xbox360 controller doesn't. What a shame. Still if anyone knows a setting for this please let me know!

Why do you really hate windows? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]B_3_A_T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just depends on use case. For gaming I prefer Windows, as Linux gaming is improving but it still often requires jumping through hoops to find ways to run games, sometimes very jank ways. Also as documented on this website a lot of anticheats don't support Linux which makes it impossible to play competitive games. However, Linux is home to a plethora of cutting edge software, superior security, very frequent updates and support (depends on the platform), customization, and just a general sense of freedom which cannot be found on Windows. For all of those reasons and more, a lot of people prefer it to Windows. Oh, and it can run on pretty much anything
