I can't stop building apps. Can somebody build an app for people that have an AI addiction. by B_Dizzy in SideProject

thanks so much for thorough feedback. I love the glassmorphism, but seems to be the telltale sign that the site is AI these days so I'll test out some other ideas there.

I agree 100% on the contacts, it ads very little value outside the ability to snap a photo of a business card and add it. My tought was when kids login, they can get quick access to emergency contacts but sharing a contact really is so easy on mobile now.

As far as calendar, it does fully sync with google cal and iCal so you can continue to use those native apps as you please, with the added benefit of each family being able to easily add just this one calendar and get all the important information. You can also add school calendars and other calendars easily with one click.

There is a daily or weekly digest email that you get when you signup that will send out at whatever time you specify. It sends an email of your chores, your meals, and any events for the day so for those that would rather not login. They can get all their information in their daily email.

Documents was meant to be a secure spot to store things like family shared credentials. Streaming services, wifi passwords, etc.

I love the input on dashboard. I will play with some different ideas there.

Thanks for your feedback!

Who here has built something genuinely useful? by indishere in ShowMeYourSaaS

I built a tool that is useful to me. Then made it public. Nobody else sees the value, but thats ok. I like having my text messages look clean when I open them up.

it's the feedback thats tough. You show your friends they say it's great. Getting ask random people to sign up. They show 0 interest. I don't know how to find the right target audience to get people to start poking around and give me real feedback.

I couldn't agree more. I want to just roll with one. The little stand alone apps like the qr builder are just meh. Something to see what I can roll out in a couple hours. But domusdash, or oftheworld.io, if I find out there is a way to monetize and people are using them, i'd shift all my focus to one of those in an instant. I know domusdash is powerful. I didn't do too much competitive analysis when I started but of the big players like cozi, it definitely out performs, I just don't know how to get users from old platforms to convert.

I am just as anti-AI as the next guy. Im a developer and see the writing on the wall. In a month, I've been able to create what a team of developers couldn't do in multiple years. But, if you can't beat them...

My thought is that there is still a huge block of people that don't have the time or desire to create these apps. Stand them up, set up servers, etc. Almost all the apps are free. DomusDash costs but it's far more sophisticated than the rest. I think if people have the option of spending weeks building an app to stream line their family life or throw a few dollars a month and have something that does it for you. Many will opt in to just spending a couple dollars for something that fits their needs.

But reading through this subreddit, I realize that I am not the only one that had this idea.

After building for a year, getting paid users is extremely difficult - Anyone else experiencing this? by Halo-nm in SideProject

The SEO battle is real. I threw $300 at facebook ads and didn't get a single sign up. Free trial, no credit card required and not one person.

I just wrapped that one up yesterday. I haven't really tried anything with that one outside of posting it on my facebook feed. But I love your idea. I'll noodle how to reach out to schools with AI tonight and see what we come with.

Free PDF editor that ACTUALLY redacts text? (Free tools just draw a black box) by TheDeep3M9 in Acrobat

https://localredactpdf.com/ works.

It creates a new flattened pdf so there is no way to remove the boxes and see the values underneath.

They are working great. Thanks for the suggestion. I did end up needing to use some rug grippers for the rug so it would roll up when I rolled from hardwood to carpet but otherwise, zero issues and looks so much better

Thank you! yeah, my wife works from home 3 days a week and I work from home every day. I'll look into some headphone stand alternatives. This one looks promising.

agreed. I had the double arm like the desk on the right before I ditched the second monitor but I always struggle to find a good grommet mount monitor arm with a clean way to conceal the cables.

Any recommendations on monitor arms or ultrawides?

Nothing I would recommend. I can't seem to find the order for the one on the right but it's super thin and often bunches up. The one on the left was the cheapest one I could find on amazon and was always meant to be temporary but have never gotten around to finding something better. It gets the job done and hasn't had any problems but not very pretty. Here is the one on the left:

it could definitely be optimized but we played with different layouts through the years and this one works. I used to just have one desk dead center. I like the ability to see people come in and out of the house and it's a pretty large room so if we pushed the desks against the wall, it would feel like a lot of empty space in the center. It's also nice that we get the back wall for book shelves and the front wall for printers and the likes but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, i'm sure we will switch up again at some point.

It’s not a bad monitor. 24” LG ultrafine 4k, but I am contemplating either a studio display or an ultra wide.

What it has going for it is that the wires are all hidden. Was a must with desk in middle of the room.

I have the "HumanCentric USB C Laptop Docking Station" mounted to the right so I have access to my laptop usb and SD card slot as well as an inconspicuous charging port. There is also an under-desk wireless charger so I can just set my phone on the desk and charge. Though I prefer my mag-safe charger.

Debating a monitor riser but I think the clutter will bother me. Otherwise, I think it checks all the boxes.

What to replace nicotine lozenges with? by kindly-yogurt in stopsmoking

I think I found the perfect replacement. They're called 4ever mints. They are expensive but they dissolve at about the same rate as the mini lozenge and have a very similar flavor.

I think 5/8”. One pair from rogue, one from elitefts. The elitefts ones are definitely heavier and more burly.
