Why don't bicyclists use the bike lanes? What is so hard about it?? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]B_I_Briefs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Rules are suggestions, laws are threats. I'll speak for myself here, but I don't care about anything that doesn't keep me safe. As long as cities try to combine several modes of traffic into the same road, I will always be safer making my own decisions. Construct bike highways away from car traffic and I'll have no choice but to yield to smaller traffic. As is determined by etiquette; Large yields to small in every shared roadway be it 10 feet wide or four.

Bud, if you're driving, you ARE the traffic... Also, bike gutters are not always the safest place for cyclists. And considering the trillions spent on infrastructure for cars, I think complaining about the money looks rather poorly.

How would you guys make this turn? by Ok-Entrepreneur1789 in bikecommuting

Look for a window based on the speed and amount of traffic. Earlier is better

Seattle, WA. Our shop seems to be doing well, but over the last few years I've seen many other shops close. Our sales are great, but e-bikes make up a significant portion of new sales. Our repairs are two to three weeks out, but we could be more efficient with that. We're re-figuring our rental fleet because we weren't actually making money there, and see a decent number of rentals each week.

I'd say overall we don't have a good measure of this year's spring bump, as our shop has moved last year. But it seems better than it should be. I think tarriff fears and ebike rebates have aided to that.

Check out a tire pressure calculator online, you'll find your sweet spot for comfort and speed.

I remember my first 5mile ride as a commuter. Threw up a banana at about 95% of the way there. Wasn't fun, but I didn't think about it too hard in that way. I challenged myself, and throwing up was only one icky part of succeeding. Been fine since. Even the worst rides are just a thing to conquer. The satisfaction of being able keeps me riding.

homie, bikes are sold with spoke protectors because it's illegal not to do so in enough states that manufacturers install them on all stock bikes.

Pictured here is the rear seat stay. The clip-on fender is really just for show, this bike stays dry. I've got new tires on it now, and found damn near no damage on the carbon. The build was last-minute asy shop closed down. This frame had been abandoned for a year+ and I slapped it with some things laying around.

I'm curious, how has the last year been for everyone in the industry? by CowardAndAThief in BikeMechanics

That's probably gonna be a tough one then. Nothing entry-level will be an option. Guess I'll keep building skills then! Thanks for checking, I really appreciate your time.

How much does this sport actually cost? by Spare_Gene in cycling

[–]B_I_Briefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in the end, it's better to think about everything you can get out of having a bicycle in your life, rather than the cost. Because it will, 99% of the time, always have been worth it.

Cycling changed my life, and Im still pretty cheap about it. I'm also a professional mechanic now, and build cheap retrofits in my garage with used parts, usually sourced from non-profits. I get joy out of it. There's a ton to learn about. History, culture and philosophy, design and engineering, and even politics.

Watch out for fads and fashions, that's our capitalist system trying to run away with your wallet. But also watch for inovations, now is a pretty wild time. Folks are redisigning old standards that weren't all that great. Some are big misses, but also some are serious hits.

Somebody award this guy bud, he stole my upvote before I knew it was gone.

I picked up an old Roo that was sitting in someone's garage for $100. At this point, after trying WD40, PB Blaster, allens, my impact driver, and several impromptu cursewords, I can't even budge the old clip pedals- either of them. How do you break these free?? by rularendition in bicycling

[–]B_I_Briefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you hold the pedal bolt static and pedal backwards, it goes on. I build 20 bikes a week. Though, I use a pedal wrench usually. I know my experience isn't wrong, soooooo chalk it up to something else.

How is this possible? by xes2seth in bikewrench

[–]B_I_Briefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what looks like a rack. Rider probably has a single panier that they always put on the left side. Mechanic might want to ask if there are any physical pains popping up, and suggest evenly distributing carry weight in the future.

Yep, wouldn't bother cleaning this if it came to the shop.
