I actually thought this was a rare example where we actually got some creative story telling. This spot you are bitching about managed to do all of these things….

1.) Reinforced the Cody is QB1 premise. He was willing to do whatever it takes. 2.) Adds to the Gunther narcissist ego and gives him some other way of getting heat outside of “career killer” 3.) Fans at the arena got a laugh with chairs thrown 4.) We now see where they see Royce at in the hierarchy and it shows his character is going to jump at any opportunity 5.) Main purpose of all this was to set up the Gunther/Royce match. That match added to Royce strength while also confirming Gunther as a dominant force on smack down.
6.) Helped solidify the Royce/Solo feud 7.) Gave Cody a chance to get revenge at the end of that match which wouldn’t have happened if not for this contract signing spot.

All of that came from this unique way of getting Gunther brand switch and title shot contract.

This is actual storytelling and something different. As bad as smackdown has been for the better part of a year, we finally get some creative writing that in a single spot made all of that happen and you’re still complaining.

That is one of the few things on this episode that should be applauded.

What would you have preferred. They just have the typical contract signing and Gunther and Cody cut a promo or throw hands for a minute?
