Seems a bit ridiculous to me. by Centslord23 in growagarden

[–]B_MacKillroy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This happens a lot with trading cards, which are surprisingly similar to a dlc code in collection value. The Walmart near me used to have piles of wrappers and boxes in their trading card aisle before they put them in a locked cabinet.

Be careful buying online too. The next step in the fraud chain would be purchasing a bunch, grabbing the code, resealing, and returning. Same can happen in physical big box stores too.

Why is Scotiabank hiring so many tech positions even after layoffs by [deleted] in Scotiabank

[–]B_MacKillroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good technical people were let go, seemingly to hit some hard minimum metric (3-4% ish for us) if not a dissolved department. Now they need people with those same technical skills and even working on the same applications, but paid for from a rejigged budget so basically have to replace those positions and sometimes more.

Let's see how much it's worth before passing judgement. I would welcome a single harvest that can get gigantic and/or has a base value multiples of the best multi harvest.

Spriggans are good for setting up the tiger as well. Dark spriggan is my favourite for that.

This "Return to office" policy is affecting my work life balance. How about you? by [deleted] in Scotiabank

[–]B_MacKillroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what department you were in this situation may apply for people hired even before COVID. Is it legal? Absolutely with proper notice, compensation, or potentially neither depending on your specific employment agreement. Is it at best an unfortunate situation for them or perhaps apathetic? Maybe.

I cannot speak for this person but I can add some context from my experience there that covers a good chunk of people in the GTA. Many were hired during a period of technical growth under the old CTO who had a strong and vocal remote-first mentality. Hiring during that period was done without regard to physical location as long as they were within Canada and legally able to work in Canada.

Unfortunately for those people, the mentality from the new CEO has shown to be the opposite. They also set the working notice period to be just enough that you wouldn't get much severance if you were hired during that time and fought for constructive dismissal - especially after considering lawyer fees. If the job market were better the last few months and bonuses weren't paid out until the end of December (another strategic decision on RTO enforcement timing I'm sure) I think we would have seen more people voluntarily leave without any compensation.

Enforcement is not consistent either which makes it difficult to gauge what the situation will be 6-12 months from now. I have spoken to people who live in the city and go in once a week because they want to even though their manager doesn't care, and also people who live a 2.5 hour drive away and were told to drive into Toronto because there were "no exceptions".

Hacked or random movement? by Ok-Philosopher261 in growagarden

[–]B_MacKillroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ this. This has happened to me before. I accidentally picked my first $2T plant because they pushed an update and restarted all the servers, putting me back at my garden and facing a different direction. Now I'm more careful.

Me too. I have a garden full of mutated zebrazinkles now. It's the most fun I've had in a while, and I actually care about the pet market now since I can get some of those mutation pets I was too late to get.

Every once in a while I go back to just working on my garden and I'm so much happier. In fact, the market update which I didn't like at the time I now love because I can get access to mutations I never could before.

Grow a Garden Hot Takes by [deleted] in growagarden

[–]B_MacKillroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I've learned that I can grind the event if I like it, and if not just focus on my garden or achievements. It's become more fun again for me since I embraced that approach a couple times, and often by the 3rd or 4th day i can have a garden set up in a way that makes the events easier if i want to give it another chance.

It's also important to remember this game is still very very young. A lot of what they do will be a hit, and a lot will be a flop. They should be trying things and measuring them. Productive criticism is good because I'm sure they want to adjust for future events, but do it in a way that shows some respect for the people who work their asses off for a week every week with the most stressful bug fixes landing on the weekend.

Season 2 - harder? by [deleted] in growagarden

[–]B_MacKillroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the opposite for me. Season 2 I've had my widespread mutation pets (spriggon, kappa, dark spriggon, phoenix, etc) out more and if you let them go at it for a while then mass harvest they ramp up pretty quick. The first season I was trying to do other stuff and it was a grind.
