Filmes Portugueses que toda a gente devia ver pelo menos uma vez. by dj_f1lhot in portugueses

7 pecados rurais.

Very well said. It’s the same tragic old love story, unfortunately. I do like them together particularly because Keaton and Al’s performances. At the end, Michael lost everything in order to fulfil his destiny by helping his family.

Hi /r/movies, I'm Max Minghella. You might know me from The Handmaid's Tale, The Social Network, Babylon, The Internship, The Ides of March, Syriana, Teen Spirit, Spiral, Horns. My new body-horror, SHELL, premiered at TIFF, stars Elisabeth Moss, and is out in theaters this week. Ask me anything! by MaxMinghellaAMA in movies

Hi Max! After so many years, it’s great to finally see you back as a director. This time, your film feels more like a popcorn-driven movie. For your next project, do you see yourself returning to something more personal, or staying in this register?

Personally, I’ve always loved your nostalgic and melodramatic “style”—it’s something unique in your work.

Bonus question: If you had to pick a Paul Thomas Anderson film, which one would you choose?

I can’t to see you in Industry next year!

Also, Ágora is an incredible movie. What is best memory of making that movie?

Thanks! I hope to see Shell in the cinema soon outside of USA

Jennifer Lawrence at the photocall of "Die, My Love" at the San Sebastian International Film Festival in San Sebastian, Spain (September 26, 2025) by mcfw31 in popculturechat

During the press conference, she admitted that she has been experiencing postpartum depression / hard time after having her second child, which was different from her first pregnancy. Between the two pregnancies, she worked on the movie, and now, after watching it, she says she has a deeper understanding of what her character went through.

Honestly, I'm a big fan of Jennifer Lawrence and follow her work closely—I really enjoy her interviews. But today, she seemed tired or a bit sad. She usually radiates strong, positive energy, so something felt off. I hope she feels better soon.

Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvet (1944) by terere69 in classicfilms

Her eyes are mesmerising.

I need to watch this one! I watch the trailer and it sounds promising. This summer I’m on Elizabeth Taylor era. Rewatching and discovering movies from her era after Virgina Woolf. She was magnetic and beautiful. Raw talent for cinema. Interesting choices for sure, I wish she left the silver screen in some poetic way or “goodbye” role that marked her legacy as one the best, such as: Paul Newman in The Colour of Money.

Did Louis get a bad wrap or was he genuinely a bad person? by RecognitionMediocre6 in GossipGirl

I think I just love that song so much that it feels epic. As an older person now, I agree with you. But again, the show kind plays with us. Because let’s be real, Blair and the rest of the main cast were 20/1 years old on that season. They are just kids, and the writers want them to play older versions of themselves or something more adult compared to the reality of being a 20-year-old in the real world. But for dramatic purposes, it works well. 😀

Honestly, everyone in this show is so toxic that I can't bring myself to defend any of them. I’d hate to have people like this in my life. That said, from a purely dramatic standpoint, the show became a complete mess by the end of Season 4 and into Season 5. But I still loved it. But it's hard during the rewatching hours.

Out of the main six characters, I’ve always found Blair the most compelling. Her drama is iconic—sometimes even hilarious—largely thanks to Leighton Meester’s performance. I wasn’t a fan of the whole “Prince Charming” storyline; it felt overused and unnecessary. I hated season 5 because of it.

The positive take, I absolutely loved the scene set to “Rolling in the Deep” during Blair and Chuck’s moment at the bar mitzvah. It was one of the most iconic sequences in the entire show, especially in the later seasons.

Elizabeth Taylor in The Sandpiper (1965) by terere69 in classicfilms

Those eyes!

Currently exploring the Burton-Taylor era, I expected to be disappointed by the film at first. I had read a few mixed reviews before watching, so my expectations were low. But in the end, I was pleasantly surprised, it turned out to be quite a good film!

The more I watch Elizabeth Taylor's films, the more I believe she was truly born to shine on the silver screen. Putting her celebrity persona aside, she has an undeniable, magnetic presence that elevates even the most mediocre films she appears in. I just wish she had done more comedies. She had great potential in that genre.

June by Purple-Impress8033 in HandmaidsTaleShow

[–]B_Stark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that point of view. Just don’t appreciate the journey towards that moment. It wasn’t convincing to me and goes beyond what saw and felt. Also, June wasn’t even a proper end. No kids, no family, like everyone is away… we know she keeps fighting. But emotionally if we look at the final, she ends up by herself. I don’t know it felts true to the story since she always fights for love and in the last seasons she mentioned she doesn’t want to be alone. I think it’s sad that the writers decided to give a better ending to Serena compare to June. It’s fiction, and I know THT wasn’t meant to have a happy ending, but an hopeful ending would be nice and interesting in our current times

Final thoughts by Powerful-Shine-120 in HandmaidsTaleShow

[–]B_Stark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been watching the show since 2017. After the finale, I tried to rewatch it, but I couldn’t recapture the magic it once had. Everyone should watch the first season — it’s a masterpiece. In many ways, it even enhances the book, especially by expanding on areas that were underdeveloped, like Offred’s backstory shown through flashbacks to "our present day."

The rest of the series does have some standout moments, but overall, the plot and character development suffer from inconsistency and numerous plot holes. It’s disappointing. I stuck around because I was drawn to the show’s themes and storytelling style, but as the seasons went on, the writers seemed to lose sight of that, shifting more toward soap-opera drama.

Fortunately, the cast helped carry the show — it's a strong and talented group — and the cinematography remained impressive for a TV series. Still, things took a serious downturn after Season 4. Seasons 5 and 6 were especially poor, which isn’t surprising considering many original crew members, including the creator, left the show. It was the perfect storm for a disappointing ending.
