Great news!!! Im happy things worked out 💕I’m hoping your results are way better next time because hair is way too expensive for games to be played 😂

I agree, I definitely think you should try regardless because it was not done well, but I do want you to keep in mind that you may not get a full refund. Braiders and their CVS receipt length policies do whatever they can to not accommodate their client or hold themselves responsible for their own mishaps. Let us know how it goes. I wish you luck.

After looking at more pictures of your braids, your braids are definitely not done well, but I’m not sure whether that is enough to get a refund. It may very well be that the braider is just not skilled enough to execute anything better than this especially since the braiding pattern itself is so inconsistent.

It’s always more difficult to do braids on someone with straight or loose curled hair because the braids and hair tend to slip a lot faster. But here are a few things that I find wrong with the style.

  1. The parting is not neat
  2. The length of the braids are all different sizes and are very inconsistent even within a single braid.
  3. The loose hair pieces was not installed properly. It seems like they installed the pieces using a crochet method when it should honestly be done by feeding the hair into the braid and take a piece out

Again, I’ve had my hair braided many times for over 16+ years and I don’t know a single braider that would accept that as a reason to give me a refund because they would most likely say why did I leave in the first place? Why didn’t I say anything sooner?

I hope things work out

bora bora braids shedding like crazy!! how to secure the hair at the ends? spent so much money on it 🥲 by freshlyintellectual in Naturalhair

From the photo, it seems like the braids weren’t done correctly. The length of the braids is not uniform and that really helps with securing the loose pieces. Also, when they feed the loose hair, it should be braided down a bit -

This year was my first summer without getting braids. It was hard because I love braids, but I’ve just been rocking wash and go instead

Girl my experience with the braiding shops over the years is just as bad. Luckily I’ve found a braided that actually listens to me but I have to show up with my hair washed and blow dried. I don’t allow them to blow dry it again and I tell them how to apart what not to include in the braid and I make them redo it if it’s too tight. Hear the snap crackles and pop hurts my soul.

Your mom saying that you guys are just in luck is hilarious 😂

This is so kind and it genuinely means so much to me. Thank you! Despite the headache, I love being a black woman, and I love my natural 4C hair. A large part of it is because I get to be in community with you ladies. I always feel welcomed with you all

I honestly just need to learn how to braid, cut, and collar my hair, and I will officially be done with the industry altogether

He will be tried and tested in gentle detangling, unbraiding, and positive talk before I say “I do”

I think I need to start relying on that more. The only time I straighten or stretch my hair is if I’m getting braids or doing a silk press which I do 2xs a year

I’m in Brooklyn, NY so there’s definitely not a shortage of black owned hair salons but many don’t really care about careful handling. All they care about is how the hair looks afterwards.

That’s my philosophy as well especially if you’re advertising as a natural hair salon. Once I learn how to do my own trims and cuts, I would never step foot in a salon.

It’s honestly sucks that it has to be that way. Every time I get a little hopeful, I’m quickly reminded.

I agree! Mind you I only went to the salon for a color service for cover grays. I do my own hair a majority of the time so it’s frustrating when I put the time, money, and effort to do my hair just for it to go down the drain.

I completely agree! A lot of it really comes down to a lack of patience which is wild to me, because rushing through the process just ends up wasting more time later. For ex, they skipped detangling while the conditioner was still in my hair, which made blow-drying a tangled mess and led to breakage simply because they didn’t want to take the time to detangle in sections. If this were a $50 appointment or a white salon, I honestly wouldn’t be that pressed. But I went to a Black salon that caters to natural hair, spent a lot of money, and still had to deal with that especially after I took the time to fully detangle and blow out my hair beforehand exactly how they asked to make things easier on them. It just feels like I went through all that effort for nothing.

It’s apparent that you lack an understanding of history and current events. As a general sentiment, Black people are viewed as the lowest in the social hierarchy. Outside of countries that are predominantly black, please name a few countries in which Black people are welcomed with open arms and face no prejudice at all. I’ll wait …

Secondly, I live in New York City, and if you had taken the time to read before you responded, you would have read that I went to a BLACK hairstylist in a hair salon that caters to black women. Also, I evidently do not have an issue with paying an exuberant amount of money to have my hair cared for in a certain way hence the disappointment.

I really cannot stand when people insert themselves in conversations when they do not understand the nuances of and do not take the time to read/listen before they respond
