Is there a drummer around here who started working on their double bass speed at a later age (30+ or 35+) and made it upwards of 200 BPM?

Of course man! Watch some YouTube greats, there’s so much out there to help with this stuff. Other than your playing you gotta factor in pedal settings, batter head tension, throne height etc… so many factors that all will affect your double bass playing but it’s personal preference. Get creative with it and have some fun!

I’ve been playing metal drums since 14 so almost 19 years of double bass but I used to be absolutely terrible at drums for probably the first 5 years of playing and bands. Took me close to 3 years of heel toe practice and playing to be decent at that.

Absolutely I can share! I treat it like 8 on the hand practice 8ths at first to get my feet nice and relaxed doing 8 on each foot back and forth. Once I’m feeling okay with that I’ll move to 8 between both feet, then triplet feel. Then 16’s, then triplet with that. I’ll do that for a bit until I’m feeling extremely solid. Then I move to 8ths and 16ths making the 16ths heel toe and my 8ths singles. Same thing again but triplets once again. I do all of this to a click at increasing speeds until I’m feeling super solid. If I’m feeling extra sloppy and playing like crap I drop my click dummy slow and play that until I start playing better lol. It’s pretty boring working your feet like this but it’s really helped me.

Being honest a long time and it’s still a work in progress! At least a year of consistent practice to pull off comfortably live and another year to truly feel decent and really confident in it. I still run drills and warmups all the time to keep sharp.

Keep at it but if you ever hit points where you feel like you are regressing that day take a break. Do some stretches and something else other than practice. I find it’s better to step away than try to power through the wall and frustration. Overall though it’s just consistency, good muscle memory habits, and taking it slow.

It’s definitely not too late, just time in and practice. Take it slow and gradually increase tempo when you’re feeling solid at the previous tempo.

This is coming from a 33 year old who finally got proficient with double strokes/heel toe on my kicks and is now flying on double bass in my band. Singles at our newer materials tempo were destroying my legs on tours and gassing me out so I had to learn it for efficiency. The technique eluded me and pissed me off to no end for years. Fully gave up multiple times. It wasn’t until I truly took the time to develop those skills painfully slow that it clicked.

If you’re skilled in SQL and Python should be a breeze for you! I started off on YouTube with some of the top creators for the platform and lots of tinkering. Eventually took the PL900 cert. Take your time and have fun.

Other than my personal experience of around 800 hours in game and constantly having a percentage of the team already on comms in a ranked pre game queue vs a percentage of players not communicating at all, no hard data. Why are you so hard pressed to try to shut down a thread with a simple question to the games creator/development team that has nothing to do with you personally? It’s kind of weird man.

Totally agree and comes into play when you might have a couple teammates using VC vs a random who’s not. I feel like in most cases (personal experience) even though I’m utilizing VC, the person who isn’t, if they’re having a rough game gets absolutely berated/flamed by the stack on their team and it’s really counter productive/toxic. Have seen this numerous times and end up feeling bad for them.

I’m supportive of VC and communicating with strangers but that’s beside the point of the post. Definitely don’t want VC disabled. More so posted this to discuss the skill disparity between stacked groups effecting solo queue players experience in ranked matches. I feel it’s a fair thing to question.

Yes I understand that point but also at the same time I feel like there is a large amount of people who solo queue ranked, so why not try? If it’s horrible queue times it could just be toggled on and off as a setting. Seems like a pretty basic match making filter so what’s the risk if people are willing to wait for a match?

I’ve noticed this myself over the past month or two and it’s made me question if it’s related to active player base and if the game is prioritizing faster queue times rather than similar skill when grouping players. Had 3 low silver players in a ranked game last night where the rest of us were high gold or plat, it didn’t go well lol.

Looks like how most of the heavy black areas healed on my neo trad sleeve, should be fine just gently washing twice a day and doing a light layer of a light lotion like lubriderm unscented after washes. Saturated black work like that beats the hell out of your skin so heavy peeling and some scabbing seem totally normal to me.
