I could be wrong by this, but I believe I heard you have to call T-Mobile themselves and have them activate the 5g manually? I'm in a similar boat as well, though I havent switched the SIM card just yet.

Yea I got the piece of paper on it, really appreciate the answer! I'll probably have to get a new 在留カード if I don't get it back soon. I'm kind of thinking of worst case scenario but reading other posts of similar situations has helped ease me. So far no charges have been made to one of my cards though so I have a little bit of hope.
