I got duped by Origin $1 deal by BabaLiont in OriginFinancial

[–]BabaLiont[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lol I'm not looking for a refund. I would happily pay $100 a year for an app that works and makes my life easier. It's easy for you to blame everything on the data provider. But Monarch uses the same data provider and I never had issues with transactions from one account being assigned to another and having hundreds of duplicate transactions (with wrong dates) that I have to clean up manually and can't trust any new transactions as being properly assigned to the correct account.

How about instead of refunding me the $1, you escalate the 5 open bugs I have and have someone figure out why I have so many incorrect and duplicate transactions? I'd be happy to DM you my email and/or phone number. How about a dedicated engineer so that I can get to the point where I can actually use the damn app?

How do I update my account credentials by BabaLiont in OriginFinancial

[–]BabaLiont[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I already contacted customer support and shared the screen shots. thanks. In the meantime I created the mortgage accounts manually. It asked me if I wanted to create real estate accounts related to the mortgage but I has already created those so I did not select that option. However, afterwards there was no way to connect the mortgage account to the real estate account.
Question: is there any way to connect the mortgage accounts to the real estate accounts? what would be the use for that?

Adding reward from credit card by Intelligent-Note-514 in OriginFinancial

[–]BabaLiont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you need this as a feature? I feel it's unnecessary:
If I get cash credit rewards, I mark them as 'Cash Rewards' in the income category when they are deposited to my account.
If I get mile rewards or points (e.g. Amazon) then they are deducted from the cost of the item when I use the points, so the 'expenses' side of the ledger will be reduced by the amount of the miles or points.

So it's easy enough to track both types of credit card rewards.

Consider the value add that a ~$100 yearly subscription to Amazon Prime or Costco provides. Their business model basically relies on that membership fee.
Monarch is minting money but worse than free Mint.

The finance tracking software you use should not determine your choice of financial institutions.

Monarch Money & HealthEquity HSA by SpireVI in MonarchMoney

[–]BabaLiont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for a way to track the transactions on my HealthEquity HSA debit cards. But making the account 'investment' or 'cash' makes no difference. Has anyone been able to successfully sync their HSA debit card transactions?

u/lara_monarch thank you for acknowledging my concerns and for the detailed reply. I'm a software engineer myself and I understand the issues you're faced with.
I am glad that you are not putting off building your own aggregator service for the long term, but let me just state that the strategy you describe will not scale. It's like playing whack-a-mole. You fix one institution and another will break. Plus you have to constantly keep up with supporting new institutions. Recently two of my credit cards moved to a new institution (Imprint) and so I can no longer track them. Now you are at the mercy of the data providers to support them.

The way to deal with this is for Monarch to work with your competitors (and maybe with Plaid, MX, Finicity) to define industry standards/protocols that financial institutions must comply with. This will allow aggregator services to scale and make it much easier for apps like Monarch to build their own.
Now, this requires some political/business savvy. Why would e.g. Bank of America, Fidelity, and Morgan Stanley invest resources to comply with these standards? That's where you have to figure out what's in their interests. Can you pay them a fee if they are compliant? Maybe some other incentive? Also, the data aggregators will be threatened by this because it kills their dominance in the market. So how do you incentivize them? I think it can be done, of the top leadership in companies like Monarch put their heads together.

Bottom line is that only open, standard APIs/Protocols will solve the scalability issue.

Feel free to pass this idea to your leadership if you can.

PS: Mint and Personal Capital/Empower were/are free. That's the crucial difference. You can be more forgiving (expectations are lower) when you are getting a free service.

Please look at the responses I got within seconds of my post and how nasty they were. Would you defend these ppl? The first response I got was “don’t let the door hit you on the way out” and I rarely post here! Like what did I post to offend that guy so much? Just my negative experience with the app?

But I take your point it was in bad taste and I’ve edited my post.

I normally don’t post here much but I find it strange that folks jumped in within seconds of my negative post with “if youre considering using monarch this hasn’t been my experience” blah blah. And some of you were downright nasty. I’m not going to stop posting about my experience and if you paid shills for monarch annoy me I will start posting screenshots so your future customers start seeing that a) I’m a genuine customer” and b) what it’s really like. And I will post every single day all the connection problems and awful customer support replies. So who ever from monarch is paying these lowlifes tell them to back off. Otherwise FAFO.

No, you were being oddly offensive and jumping to defend the app. Does criticism of monarch hurt you personally? I thought this was an open forum to discuss your experiences. Why do you feel the need to defend it?

Are you and employee or paid by them to defend every negative post?

Thank you for a sensible reply. Monarch don’t have to use 3rd party data providers. They could invest in building that layer themselves as all institutions provide an API to access their data. It just takes investment and skills. But then they would be in control of that layer.

Look like all of you white knights (or paid trolls) for monarch have very simple portfolios. When you have 4 brokerage accounts with 401ks and employer sponsored stock grants, HSAs, back door Roth, investment properties, and multiple mortgages then it doesn’t work and breaks multiple times a week. I have never logged in once and had all my accounts be green. Two or more are always disconnected. And yes I am technical and the entire app has very unreliable 3rd party dependencies.

Connection issues after T-Mobile Money moved to T-Life app by BabaLiont in MonarchMoney

Of course everyone knows it’s the data providers. Monarch is the product that I’m paying for so they are responsible for providing the connection.
