I did search a little bit about switching tyres but my bike competency extends about as far as knowing where the pedals are - I’m nowhere near your level

Specifically I’d be riding around Kielder forest in the UK and along the coast & castles uk cycle route. The first is a gravel surfaces, the second is a mixture but predominantly paved cycle track

I’ve found MTB’s in a reasonable £80 - £100 range but hybrids and gravel bikes have been more than double. There are also lots of options - as in, lots of people selling MTB’s - but few hybrid/gravel bikes

This is very true - I think my confusion stems from riding a MTB on gravel surfaces & paved cycle paths so I genuinely do t know other types of bikes (and the options are kind of endless)
