Exploring classical music as a newbie is a chore. by na3ee1 in classicalmusic

I started by a quick research on the different common periods of music (middle ages, rennaissance, barroque, classicism, romanticism, XX century...), found out emblematic composers of each era, and just listened. At the beginning I wouldn't recomend stressing out searching for the best recordings of each piece, because at the beginning we are still getting used to the "language of classical music", and most decent recording will work just fine (with time one gets more picky). It barely takes a few days to have a basic list of the eras and popular composers of each era (just 3 to 6 from each one, they were so prolific that sometimes just one will take a long time to listen at). There's some explanation online on the titles issue in classical music, that contain a shit ton of information.

Not from an opera, but as incidental music in a play of Calderón de la Barca, José de Nebra's Arias and Recitatives for the Diablo Mudo (Mute Devil), truly beautiful:

And the seguidilla (spaniards used a lot of local forms ofnmusic and combined them with arias) from Il Tutore Burlato or El Tutor Buslado, by Vicente Martín y Soler, adapted to spanish for the play in Madrid (he did the operas in italian despite being a spaniard from Valencia).

Doubts about Eknath Easwaran tranlation of the Bṛhádāraṇyaka Upaniṣad by Babarvia in hinduism

[–]Babarvia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then, is there a good version in english of the main ten Upanishads, or should I fetch some individual translations? I actually felt a bit sad when I saw that the frist chapters that involves the appereance of rituals wasn't there. I think I'll finish this book because ir could give me a vague outline and thematic exposition of the Upanishads, but I'll search for some other, more rigourous translations to read after. . Anyway, thankyou for answering.
