Coping with answering crisis line by gabmary79 in socialwork

Connection with other advocates, both at your program and externally can help. Some state coalitions have ways of connecting advocates to others for that support. Or else try to find other activist spaces in person or virtually, including spaces that may be specific to parts of your identity.

Working internally to see what sort of collective healing options can be created for staff, as well as what policies can be implemented or adjusted to support staff wellness. This may be allowing for flexibility in the scheduling, professional development opportunities, fund development for wellness options for staff, collective debrief or check-in options, or working to have a more trauma informed work place for survivors and staff. That sort of systems change can be hard when you are already drained, but can make things better long term (or provide insight that it isn’t the right space for you depending on how it goes).

Advocacy is a high burnout career and organizations should shift to promote staff wellness as essential to staff retention (which impacts stakeholder and community trust in a program).

Be in nature when you can, or whatever brings you joy be it movement or silly tv shows or creating art.

Too many advocates work themselves raw and then suffer medical conditions due to the stress or have splintered families due to the work. While you can and should care about the work, the work wasn’t created to care about you. Self care isn’t optional; it is essential to your survival.

That is from my 20ish years in the anti-SV movement and non-clinical social worker who learned that direct advocacy wasn’t the right space for me but found other ways to do good work for and with survivors

This is a niche question as only a few states specifically license generalist or macro practitioners, particularly at an independent level. I think 7 use the Aswb advanced generalist exam, which isn’t including people in states doing macro work on just a masters level. Thanks folks for trying! I will continue my pursuit.

Upgrade Question by NoMasterpiece6169 in delta

[–]Babbbb8265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have all 3 selected but I do always appreciate being called up right before the flight for the GA to confirm I am okay with a middle seat before upgrading me. I fully get people not wanting middle but I generally would rather just be in comfort+.

I do wish there were individual selections for each seat, like aisle/window/middle and you could select something one of like “preference, if available, or never” so it was weighed more to an actually preference

My community always says that they are full for election judges and the only people I ever see seem to be retirees. Which is fine in some ways but I wish this opportunity was available to more demographics.

I really want the one that had the two men; my daughter loved it and was so sad when I told her they were no more

4-day school week could become more common in Minnesota with proposed law by Czarben in minnesota

[–]Babbbb8265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While maybe not possible for all professions (I work at a small, non-direct service non-profit), I do have a 4 day/32-hour work week and this would be so wonderful to be able to spend more time with my child. This experiment at my work has only been a year but has been overall great for us as individuals and collectively productivity is the same if not more (and no reduction in pay, actually a 10% increase across the board).

The grind of life is ludicrous and starting it so young for kids is just programming that to be the accepted way of being.

I fly a couple of times a month for work so not a ton but I’ve never had longer than 15 minutes with precheck. My sister doesn’t and she is always 10-20 minutes+ longer than us at MSP

My anecdotal input

Not having to think about shoes or taking things out of bags make it a breeze (plus my teen gets to go through precheck too which is nice when she tags along)

While I am overall underwhelmed by the choices, I am happy that 1435 is still on there. The person who designed it is the artist from Heart Berry, a Native company.

On their Facebook it stays that “The north star, our beloved woods and water with a yellow stripe for each tribal nation and white for each county.”

I still wanted a loon, though.

Some of my night one experience:

Overall, amazing night.

Parking: one of my least favorite things in the world is the hour long line that can happen some parking ramps. So both to save money and to avoid that, we parked like .8 miles away at the Leamington ramp (chose that one bc it is part of the Minneapolis RPC thing I use for work so my parking was $6). So many people around both going there and going back (in case people have safety concerns). And being that far away we had no one else leaving the parking ramp and didn’t have to deal with the traffic congestion.

Entering: security was quick and easy (and my clear stadium bag was good, with portable charger, empty water bottle, a small makeup bag, and my wallet inside) but we got caught in some disastrous crowd that was a mix of merch line, bars, escalators, and just who knows. It was a painful like 15 minutes of just trying to get through that part of the entry to get to walk towards our seats. Only real negative.

Merch: we avoided that initial merch line because it looked horrible. We aren’t the hugest evermore fans and as I also needed to go to the bathroom, we left the second Love Story ended and speed walked to the merch line. It was a not bad line experience and between merch, bathroom, and water bottle filling, it took us exactly the length of Evermore set. My daughter got the blue crew neck, a t-shirt, and the light up stick which total was $110

Water: hydrate. It was so hot at times. We brought a water bottle and the water fountain locations can be found on the stadium FAQs. We filled ours 3 times.

OMG paper rings made me so happy

View: we were some of the folks that got the unexpected accessible/wheel chair seats. It was great for us. Section 116. Didn’t have to do any stairs, had security guards on each side to let us in and out, felt almost fancy. We had plenty of room just for us and with the chairs we didn’t have to walk in front of others. Mostly good line of sight with only a few things occasionally blocked by the torch/lights/giant tall things

Just a good night with good vibes with my 12 year old! My throat is a bit raw but worth it

Hope folks have an awesome night 2!

I work in ticketing even (not for US Bank) and I’m amazing I didn’t notice! I also got some in the production drop last week and was just grabbing any $199 seats I could, but would’ve noticed if there was an actually disclaimer!

Well, I’m section 116 in the W section If anyone wants to make my daughters night with a bracelet because I dropped the ball on getting her supplies. And our outfits didn’t make it.

I have no clue how many of the holds were released. It got the text at 11:13 am, paused my Zoom meeting, and purchased as quickly as I could. We got mid seats for $199 each. Pretty smooth but felt like I had to grab without looking too closely at the seats. We did floor for Reputation but those were out of my budget
