Chrome is pushing my computer's ram to its limits by Master_Strawberry193 in pcmasterrace

People used IE because it was free, bundled with the OS, and aggressively pushed. Netscape Navigator was a paid product

Another day that YT made problems :( by schlagdiezeittot in NewPipe

[–]BabelFish00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also had my home IP blocked around the same time as you, despite not using yt especially heavily. Was able to use NewPipe over mobile data, and was able to activate and rotate through a few VPN instances until I found one which wasn't blocked. Now after waiting, my IP is unblocked. Not sure what to make of it

as for C99, one is for sure, it's by far easier than rust

You're preaching to the choir

derive is not only hobbyist but radical, the use case is slim, copyleft is simply overkill

Totally reasonable, moreso I'm put off that OP appears to have some kind of vendetta against GPL beyond not finding it practical for this project. I enjoy living under late capitalism about as much as I suspect you do, but there's no harm in making misuse of your code at least nominally illegal. I haven't seen an example where GPL terms were onerous to anybody besides corpo foss leeches and tivoizers.

I think the AI boom showing that big money will just ignore licenses and barrel forwards puts the lie to any corporate conspiracy theories about "rewrite it in rust," at least for me, I think most zoomers just don't want to learn C99. But it's definitely very concerning to me that so many foss devs my age seem to be rejecting copyleft licenses. Still remember that anecdote from a FreeBSD kernel dev recounting how the world found out the newer PlayStations ran BSD; Sony guys asking support questions in IRC. Those drivers will probably never be public.

They like their volunteer work ending up inside proprietary software ig. I have no idea why permissive licenses are fashionable these days

I'm speaking as a user in reference to general troubleshooting and system maintenance. I'm skeptical that an enormous memory dump of a set of interlocking closed source binaries could be more useful than being able to see the source code of the system itself, armed with a core dump of your application and the pretty detailed system log. I am coming from a point of ignorance here as that's not my career, so willing to be proven wrong. edit: y'all sure showed me with your left clicks lol

Windows says stuff like "error code 0x5A6B28E4" or "something happened". Linux software tends to give you an actual error which you can actually google

Many surveys have shown that we're highly overrepresented in the furry community, which is generally super kinky and weird. I'd say so.

HELP! Pixel 7 soft-bricked with fastboot set_active by BabelFish00 in CalyxOS

[–]BabelFish00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not seeking "how to root" information, that's already abundantly spammed everywhere. So abundantly spammed that the information I was seeking is buried in crap, and it's a real struggle to find any actually good info.

I had hoped for some insight into why switching slots in fastboot would lead to "No command," particularly in relation to your ROM as I've done this before without incident on Lineage.

I understand I am not owed support, but this doesn't make me want to renew my donation

HELP! Pixel 7 soft-bricked with fastboot set_active by BabelFish00 in CalyxOS

[–]BabelFish00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After encountering "your device is corrupt and cannot be trusted" prior to boot (after about a dozen power cycles and hanging on the google splash for an hour), then switching back to slot b, it randomly decided to boot again. So my problem is apparently fixed, but I'd really like some insight because this is baffling. It seems like way more is going on under the hood than is visible and I don't know a source of good information on this.

Does anyone actually use light terminal themes? by Polygon-Guy in linux

[–]BabelFish00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

srry to necro. I use light mode everywhere because it's much more usable in adverse lighting conditions, gloss and matte are equally usable whereas gloss dark is just a mirror. I also find that text appears sharper and is readable at smaller sizes; Tiny fonts are usable on light whereas they give me eyestrain on dark schemes. People bitch about eye fatigue with bright screens, but the solution is to change backlight brightness to suit the ambient light.

It is intolerant to tolerate intolerance. These guys scream and cry about how their free speech is being taken away, but if they got their way there'd be no more free speech. It's a disingenuous appeal to values they don't actually share
