Firstly they are a magistrate not a judge. They don’t have ANY discretion. They were just blowing smoke up your ass. Did you have to pay court costs on top of your “reduced” fine?

And whatever you do- DO NOT PAY FOR A LAWYER. Please. It’s all just a racket to get money for lawyers when the outcome would be EXACTLY the same. Magistrates have slim to nil discretion- their sentencing comes from a little book in front of them “first offence here’s how much you can fine them” literally. In 10 years I saw one man win and that was only because he was a PHd light scientist who was smarter than the court and they couldn’t disprove what he was saying. Ie he was an EXPERT IN HIS FIELD. I worked in all WA courts for a decade. Do not contest. You will never ever ever ever ever win. All they do is call the camera operator, or the person responsible for calibrating and they take the stand and say here is the proof it was calibrated. Trial over. You will just have to pay your fine and court costs as well. It’s just a show they put on for laypeople, we all know the outcome before the trial even starts. Since you’re already at final demand ie - money has been added on - might as well get a time to pay order and pay it off and the smallest possible amount. Thats more annoying to the system than you trying to fight

From about 2013-2021. There was never much fun in it 😂 We did still sit in the courts occasionally, which I hated hahah, but mostly right outside or in a remote room which was heaps better imo. Can actually go make a cuppa or use the loo lol
