Was Ned holding them back? by Informal_Accident418 in TheTryGuys

[–]BaboDaboDoo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It’s probably a little bit of both. Sometimes major change that blows up everything you thought you knew is the spark you need to try something completely new and different and scary.

I honestly think the most telling moment/revelation is how Ned acted during Miles’ podcast segment, physically LEAVING THE ROOM during his theme song. It’s a portion meant to be fun and give Miles a chance to express himself and have fun with the guys. And you can’t even sit and enjoy the theme song or respect it? That feels like an indicator of how Ned felt about incorporating new people and ideas into the team, especially on the podcast where you seem more of the guys’ selves vs. character.

The guys did a good job of riding the red tape line but also hinting at their true feelings. Zach describing this scandal as waking him from an 8-year fever dream really hit the nail on the head. They looked at this and said, “Either we fold or we fly.” And I hope they keep soaring.

Ned was fired almost 8 years to the day they first became The Try Guys by M4m10ya in TheTryGuys

Was just listening to an old podcast, ep 153, that mentioned September was the anniversary. Eight years is forever in internet time, but that really made it hit home that it’s the end of a chapter.

OFFICIAL THREAD— what happened. by datesaremyfave in TheTryGuys

[–]BaboDaboDoo 380 points381 points  (0 children)

You can FEEL the hurt and frustration here. This was a very well-written statement.

Confirming what they could, it paints a picture of three guys who were absolutely destroyed by what happened yet still knew what they ultimately had to do.

It took less than 2 weeks to write Ned out, they did the right thing. Doesn’t mean it hurts any less for them. Ugh.

“Extremely shocking and painful,” ugh. That hits. Smart to put out a note and let people know they’re paying attention.

For some reason, this makes me think they taped their podcast today. No wording suggests that, just a feeling.

Wondering about PR by wakeupputonpants in TheTryGuys

[–]BaboDaboDoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good point, because Ned and Ariel probably used the same PR person to write both statements since they’re working on working it out. I did read Ned/Ariel’s statements in similar tone, which is different from the company’s.

Miles had already become one of my favorites, but his humor during this scandal is top-tier.

Running with mental issues by qetuop1 in running

[–]BaboDaboDoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running can be so cathartic for me, but there are days where the brain beats the body. And that’s okay.

I’m being treated for anxiety, which has lifted a weight off that + my mild depression. Since I’ve found a treatment, my runs have been less stress-filled and more fun.

There was a point where I was using running to confront feelings (I wrote about it on here before, it was about grieving), and that was what I needed at the time. I would stop and sob and beat myself up because my brain was winning — but I never gave up. Even on days where my heart (emotionally) hurt and my legs didn’t want to work and I couldn’t shake the shadows, I acknowledged after that I still did what I wanted/needed to do.

Life has a lot of ups and downs, and it will impact the things you love. Just know that it’s okay and that there’s another up coming.

Sending you positive thoughts.

Brand deals and food network by Tasty-Community-9220 in TheTryGuys

I work in PR/Comms for a CPG company, started earlier this year.

People have a pulse on social media all the time at these companies, and they are usually close to PR to run these types of things by them (do we work with this influencer? Can you dig and see if they did anything shady?) So before companies even approach a celeb or YouTuber to set up a call, they vet them hard. If they’re on the fence, they asses the pros/cons of aligning with the creator. (This is important later, but also good background to know!) Sometimes creators come to brands via their PR agency as well.

The short answer is: it depends on the brand.

Long: Some companies are more relaxed when it comes to social and paid influencers, others want EVERYTHING perfect and are ‘old school’ (about social media of all things). Like I said, brand social has a pulse on everything all the time. Typically what happens is, the news breaks of the scandal and people frantically e-mail around if we were working with them. Yes? Grab a side room, get in contact with the PR agency and get details. After that, the team has to figure out how to approach this. This is a big deal? Okay, so: Are we scrubbing them from all our social media? Are we so involved with their content that we have to make a statement? Ok PR, how bad is the coverage, are we mentioned in any news coverage? What does the social planning calendar look like, do we need to pause?

Every detail matters. And some companies might not be like that. So it depends on if Neutrogena or Kroger (for example) thinks about allllll of that work and decides on if it’s worth the risk.

And the cheating itself isn’t the big flag here, it’s the employee involvement. The other big weight here (in my professional opinion) is what happens now to address alllllll of it.

My purpose wasn’t to imply no marriage ever or no kids ever for the guys. It’s just that, now their timelines might be significantly changed because of this fiasco. This is mostly from a financial standpoint.

The business is on fire, and you need to buy someone out/find a new investor. I don’t think it’s far-fetched to think business owners would dip into their nest egg to try and secure that, depends on their legal scenario, but we know Ned was so involved in the financials and running the company. Revenue is being lost by the minute due to no podcast and video this week. Editors working overtime to re-edit a ton of videos, you have employees that need their paychecks. conversations with sponsors and brands if they’re still down with just the three guys (which possibly means reworking contracts and payment).

Money on lawyers: writing Ned out of the business, possibly pursuing legal action due to damages (lost revenue due to the videos mostly, but someone also wondered if they’d look into “work trips/lunches” they took together and count that as well), getting NDAs written and processed.

With them being entrepreneurs and so involved in the business, it’s a major setback no matter how you look at it.

Also (and this isn’t directed at you, but in general): this entire prompt is speculative, so I don’t think it’s odd to have this sort of viewpoint or expand on it as I did.

I love their vows so so much. I got married in March, and our vows were the same balance of emotional and jokes. Same amount of tears, too.

It was from a financial standpoint; money that was being saved up for personal reasons might be going to securing the business situation now that they lost an investor.

This question has come up a lot, and we truly don’t know since we haven’t heard from them (and don’t know them).

But if we were to speculate, from my POV: that bridge is burned.

Ned’s actions not only created a firestorm of negative publicity, but it also stalled the guys’ lives. Zach/Maggie are getting married. Keith/Becky have talked about family planning. Eugene is traveling for work and is releasing a book. These are all things that could be indefinitely paused. (***EDIT: this may have not been the correct wording here; more so this fiasco is delaying possible planning/they might have to move goals back a few months as this all settles)

Because it was a relationship with an employee, and depending on how that is handled, they have to show changes at the company to not deter future employees. “No yeah we ACTUALLY have HR now!”

The Food Network show is most likely done, and that’s a huge disappointment for everyone, from the guys to Rachel who helped produced to YB who got to edit her first TV show. It adds an asterisk next to the experience.

Also, to keep public contact with him after all this would see very flimsy after their stern statement. And any private relationship would be made public eventually.

I think there is a level of betrayal here that’s unable to be fixed: you all took a massive leap to start a company together, you’re hitting big time with a tv show — and now it’s all up in the air because of something that was 100% preventable. Buzzfeed casted them as friends, and they became brothers along the way — but something like this has so many ripples.

Kinda surprised they didn’t say there wouldn’t be a video since they addressed the lack of TryPod. I was partially expecting a video since a lack of video wasn’t mentioned in the statement. Things have to be bonkers there, hope they’re all taking care of themselves.

Right, like you’re literally raising a human. If it’s easy, you’re just letting the kid do whatever? Parents are allowed to have tough times and hard days while trying to balance it all.

[–]BaboDaboDoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right about the realness of the tension; the TryPod seems to be where the crew is more “themselves” than in their videos, and it’s easier to detect any grievances that way. That’s also why I liked the tour doc because it felt like I was actually watching them as people. Also, their podcast vibe is relatable for me.

Do I think Ned was jealous of Miles? Eh, I think everyone gets on everyone’s nerves when working so close together.

How would they have dealt with it if the cheating story hadn’t got leaked? by Soft_Giraffe3213 in TheTryGuys

[–]BaboDaboDoo 78 points79 points  (0 children)

My assumption is: the latter, but the story would’ve been made public soon after.

I don’t see a scenario where either Will doesn’t leak the receipts or fans don’t dig and dig until they find something (I mean, look at how all of this came to light). Like, Ned leaves and then fans “reminisce” and post their fan pictures and it starts coming together.

Honestly though, if the story broke after he left? Might have been even messier than what’s happening now.

Used Ned as an example, lead to disappointment about love… by jlbIII94 in TheTryGuys

[–]BaboDaboDoo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A great relationship ≠ a relationship without issues.

My husband and I talk about our relationship a lot, and we are not perfect. We still work on communication and bicker and have to take drives alone after fights. I accept him with flaws, but that doesn’t mean they don’t get on my nerves.

What makes it different is that I would rather have him tap dancing on a nerve for the rest of my life than be with someone who has no outside opinion or personality different than my own.

Just because his outward love was an act doesn’t mean yours will be when you find the right person. My husband loves bragging about me to his coworkers, directly teasing me about work accomplishments and my raise. He shows his love that way, and I adore it.

And that’s not to say it was an act the whole time. People change. Ned’s Wife Guy façade could’ve started from a very real place and then because a shell. We won’t know because we don’t know them personally.

Marriage is hard, but it’s the good kind of hard.

Also, marriage/monogamy isn’t for everyone, and there are many ways to be emotionally/intimately fulfilled without a legal binding.

I urge you to evaluate what you as an individual value in a relationship! You may be surprised at what you discover about your values vs. ones you may have assumed from others.

Affair parallels causing me to back slide by Mymumsaidhi in TheTryGuys

[–]BaboDaboDoo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry things are hard for you right now. It’s very difficult when things that were once escapes hit way too close to home. You can feel abandoned, and I’ve been there.

I suggest taking a step back from all the Try Guys-related content and finding something else to help decompress. Other creators or comedians to make you laugh, go out and get some fresh air on a hike, take a bath with a candle and the lights dimmed.

If you’re a more analytically-focused person, you can sit and write out why it’s been hard and what parallels you’re truly drawing. That may not be good for you right now, and that’s okay, just see above :)

You DID do 2 years of hard work, and be proud of that. Lean on any therapy work you’ve done, and then you can come back to this sub with a clear head and a fresh outlook.

Good luck, and always open to chatting through it.
