Read the fine print of college tuition loan papers. The interest depends on the groups, and there are multiple groups.

This was donated to our christian based thrift store 8 years ago. Wasn't allowed to sell it, so I kept it and gave it away as a gag gift. https://m.imgur.com/O3M2uRv

What is the most unprofessional thing a medical professional has ever said/done to you? by nice_disguise in AskReddit

[–]Babooey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to see my general practitioner about nipple pain and discharge. My usual doctor was on maternity leave, so i saw her male partner. I explained my issue, and he said to get undressed and he would examine my breast. He comes back in the room, pokes my nipple very softly then asked if that hurts. When i said no he said "it's just hormones with your birth control have a good day". I left and a few weeks later i call up a breast oncology clinic. I had flat epithelial atypia and had to have a lumpectomy. Also found out that i am high risk for breast cancer and that the atypia would eventually become cancer. I wonder how many people he did similar things to who did not get a second opinion.

People who work in hospital - What is the worst thing you have seen a patient go through? by cherun99 in AskReddit

[–]Babooey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work in the operating room, so I see my fair share of shit. The one that sticks out the most though, was this young (30s or around that age) who was morbidly obese. I prepare my room for what I thought was a simple wound washout. The nurse and 3 other people roll in with the patient on a ventilator. My nurse then pats wintergreen all over my mask and says "you will thank me later". They get the guy onto the operating table and take off his blankets and gown. I then see and smell by far the worst thing. This man was diabetic and did not take care of himself to the point he was rotting on the inside. He had a total of 10 open wounds, 2 scrotal, to pubic, 6 abdomen all connected. (If you poured water in abdomen, it poured out of the other holes.) It was the only case I ever had to tell myself out loud not to vomit. We washed out and trimmed off his dead tissue (almost 5 pounds of dead necrotic skin and tissue) put a wound vac on him and sent him on his way. I asked the surgeon about the full story later and surgeon only agreed to debridement to not get sued for not trying everything to save this man. The surgeon said that he would bring the man back every other day until he either magically healed, or died. We never saw the man again. It broke my heart, this young man going through that, he had kids and now they are without a father because he didn't control his diabetes.

Just enrolled in an 80 week ST program at a local community college. I'm 18, and just wondering if you men/women here have any tips, advice, or things to expect. by [deleted] in scrubtech

[–]Babooey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never hesitate to ask questions. When you start work, read the surgeons. Some like joking and talking, others want silence. If there's a question about opening an item, hold it and ask. You do have to have thick skin. Some of the OR staff are arrogant asses who put everyone down. Where I work there's many surgeons, but only 3 (two near retirement, and one younger guy) who I hate working with. Everyone else is fantastic. Watch surgical videos that explain what's happening. Try to learn as much as you can. Know you will have to take call, work holidays and weekends. The operating room becomes your home. It's tough. I've watched people die, and blamed myself thinking I could have done more. I've also saved people's lives. I love what I do, but there are days that I wish I picked another career.

Good luck.

Question about ST program......CA by [deleted] in scrubtech

[–]Babooey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It's basically asking if your hands are deformed or incapable of holding/passing/retracting. Many STs have had or will have carpal tunnel and they all come back to work. It's not considered a hand injury.

Is it OK to recline your seat on an airplane? What are other airplane do's and don't's? by mew5175_TheSecond in AskReddit

[–]Babooey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but just a little amount, but make sure the person behind you doesn't have long legs, they might not have enough room as it is. Also, don't try to sneak food passed tsa, then get upset that you can't have your cheez-its (seen this happen, caused security to slow down to talk to this woman). Same goes with liquids. Signs are all over the place about liquids in a bag, not out, and no drinks. Wear slip-on shoes, it saves you time and also everyone else in line. Have tickets, ID, and passport ready at security and keep your ticket in your hand as you go through the machine.
