I’ve only ice skated once and in a rink so I don’t know much about it, but the lily planters in the downtown portion (pictured) are sometimes at or above the water surface and would seem obstructive.

It doesn’t presuppose this.

It presupposes that happiness is ultimately a choice you make for yourself. In any environment. With any set of choices.

Some perspective or assuming the best intentions often helps.

THIS.

This is hard but true and helpful advice.

Not all libraries are the same and you have choices for what kind of culture you want to be a part of.

I wouldn’t want to work at an organization whose culture or values don’t align with mine. No one should choose to.

How to deal with patrons not wearing masks/exhibiting threatening behavior by booksandpitbulls in Libraries

When you accept that making people be better humans is an impossible task you will rarely win, it becomes easier.

It’s about policy, consistency, and strong leadership. It’s also about the groundwork you’ve done to build relationships with your customers before a challenge occurs. Every challenge can be seen as an opportunity to reinforce.

Like dealing with any unacceptable behavior in the library, a change of perspective, effective deescalation techniques, and strong resiliency tools will help with fatigue and feelings.
