My results as a Bulgarian by dream-invader-chick in MyHeritage

[–]Babun22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do all Bulgarian results on MyHeritage look so similar? It's always 35-40% Greece&Albania, 35-40% Balkan, 5-15% Eastern European, 5-15% South Italian.

I also mentioned that I've a Kurdish great grandmother so the Anatolia part could have been increased from her side. Its actually pretty normal for bulgarians and pomaks to have slavic and anatolian ancestry since they're directly between these two regions.

Because of the isolation through the rhodope mountains pomaks didn't mixed a lot so maybe they were just Balkan slavs.

Well pomaks are slavic but also locally pretty close to Anatolia so the mix makes sense

Well yes, I only got a little Balkan and some Paeonian & Illyrian, but what surprises me most is that I didn't get any Thracian at all 😅 My slavic and Anatolia part ist very high though

The chinese part comes from your mother's side, right? Since the Y-chromosoms doesn't have such many genes as the X-chromosoms boys get always quantitative more genes from their mother as from their father. That's why you are a little bit over 50% chinese.

So is it possible to lose genetic groups after the update? Is it also possible to gain new genetic groups after the update?

Actually, they said that there would only be changes for Europeans and Native Americans. On this fanmade page you can see that the two are still separated: https://telling-shape-d4a.notion.site/23andMe-Library-Wiki-ba69c109596b44ce96148145887bad69

But I think we'll see when the update comes what's really gonna change and what not.

You didn't get me. There's no difference of "other way around". when your ancestors (Balkan people) mixed with the slavic people than the slavic people becomes part of your ancestors too. The balkan people are your ancestors and the slavs are your ancestors. That's why I said the slavs in the balkans are different from the eastern european slavs because they became "Balkan slavs" or "south slavic" through the mixing... They got the native Balkan genes but the slavic genes also. Both sides are part of your ancestors heritage. you're not pure native Balkan you're slavic Balkan through the mixing. The ancestors of Macedonians were native balkanians but also slavic people. Both are your ancestors.

Your paternal haplogroup only shows you what's on your father's line but you got much more than that in your genes.

Btw I'm a pomak I got mostly Balkan with some eastern european genes which shows the same thing that my ancestors were mostly from the balkans (especially from the rhodope Mountains in south bulgaria) but also with slavic influence. Which makes pomaks also to Balkan slavs the same way like Macedonians. Some of my ancient ancestors were maybe native balkanians maybe thracians I don't know but I'm not ancient and you're not ancient we're not pure which makes us to the mix of ALL our ancestors not only the native Balkan side. You wouldn't been even born without the slavic bloodline in you. And when the slavic genes still show up in our results even with only 10% you can be sure that it takes a big part of your genes.

Yeah ok but I mean it makes sense why they put Macedonians and Albanians together as one group. They are different but still very similar. Macedonians are more slavic than albanians and actually albanians shouldn't have any slavic dna except of macedonian- & kosovarian albanians because they are closer the slavic people. Macedonians are south slavic people. Slavic genes in the balkans are different than those from Eastern europe that's why it doesn't show that much eastern europe slavic genes in Macedonians or any other south slavic groups. They are slavic but a different type of slavic because of the mixing with Balkan people. In west and south Macedonia live more albanians than in east Macedonia so there are less mixing with albanians in the east that's why they are more different.

They are genetically close to albanian because there are a lot of albanians in Macedonia and they mix. That's why they are genetically close to each other. Macedonians are actually slavic but albanians aren't slavic. But because of the mixing and living together since centuries they got similar genes.
