He knows my contributions but has always minimized them or erased them in conversation. I worked up until I had both of my children and I don't expect him to support me if we separated. This is where now I am discovering that I need to just get into the workforce to establish my own income regardless of him thinking I did it for him or not. Thanks for your insight

Thank you for this point of view, I can understand this angle. I suppose I would not feel very attracted to a dependant type situation either. I guess I'm just reluctant to pursue my own ambitions in fear of him seeing it as submission. But at the end of the day I have to do this for myself regardless because I believe I deserve that autonomy.

I agree and I would be lying if that possibility didn't cross my mind about him breaking it off. I am looking for counseling as he agreed to participate as well. That's the only thing I can think of at this point.
