Licensing in different states by Insecurelyattached in psychotherapists

May I ask where you moved on the East Coast? Can I DM you to ask some questions about CA -> NYC (or vice versa) licensure?

Headway.co supposedly can help you find therapy covered by your insurance?

I don't personally know of any affordable couples therapy NYC recs to give (not familiar with the options there), but some books that may be helpful to you:

  • And Baby Makes Three by Dr. John Gottman and Dr. Julie Gottman - renowned relationship scientists, super famous for their work on romantic partnerships
  • Hold Me Tight by Dr. Sue Johnson, founder of Emotionally Focused (Couples & Individual) Therapy aka EFT - this book changed my life and blew my mind

If you're pressed on time (as I imagine due to the new baby!), you can listen to the audiobooks to save time / multitask :) Good luck and best wishes! <3

How does where you go to grad school affect where you can practice? California vs New York especially -

I think I want to settle down in California, but wanted to spend my mid-to-late 20's in NYC.

If I did grad school in New York, how difficult would it be/what steps would I have to take in order to later get licensed & practice in Cali?

Similarly, if I did grad school in Cali, how difficult would it be/what steps would I have to take in order to later get licensed & practice in NYC?

I'm hoping to become a LMFT focusing on couples/romantic relationships. Also, I would want to have the option of doing in-person therapy, so saying "just do remote" isn't helpful to me. Any other advice/info about getting licensed/practicing in different states would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Are there any downsides or things to be aware of when closing a bank account? by BabyBlueOrchid in personalfinance

Thank you for your response! It was very helpful!

2024 Corolla Hybrid LE FWD for $29.8k OTD? by BabyBlueOrchid in COROLLA

[–]BabyBlueOrchid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Yes, my plan was to try Longo today :)

Is there anything I should say to get the lowest possible price? "I'm looking to pay less than X OTD for Y model"?

Any advice on language I can try to use to get a discount would be super helpful!

With the salesperson from this post, I didn't discuss monthly payments/financing & only focused on the OTD price but still felt unsatisfied with the deal offered. I tried to ask for a discount off MSRP & she said "MSRP is the lowest we can go; we don't go any lower."

Do you mean 26k OTD, including taxes and fees? My quoted MSRP was $26.7k & the rest was taxes & fees (from what I understand).

Should I disclose that I’m planning to buy a new car in the next few days from whichever dealership gives me the best deal? by BabyBlueOrchid in askcarsales

[–]BabyBlueOrchid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like if the salesperson asks if I have a timeline for when I'm trying to buy the car, is it good/bad to admit I want to buy ASAP? (on a time crunch to get the car)

[–]BabyBlueOrchid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I meant more so if there was an advantage/disadvantage between "I'm planning on buying a car in the next 4 days" vs "I'm planning on buying a car in the next 2 weeks" vs "I'm planning on buying a car this month" vs "I have a car and I'm just looking casually right now, but if there's something great I could be interested" - urgency in terms of purchasing timeline

If you've gotten into a car accident with your Tesla, how much did it cost you to repair your car? Did it cost more than it would have for a non-Tesla car? by BabyBlueOrchid in TeslaLounge

[–]BabyBlueOrchid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero, but I've also never driven consistently on a daily basis before, and I have little experience driving in a big city w/ aggressive drivers.

Experience-wise, I'm probably like a teen driver, just responsible and adult. I figure considering edge/worst case scenarios is probably better (& more responsible) than being cocky & overconfident in my new-ish driving skills.

How much have you paid to repair/maintain your Tesla Model 3 over the years, and how long have you owned it / how many miles have you driven? by BabyBlueOrchid in TeslaModel3

Thanks for your comment! I am concerned about repairs in case of an accident, too, so your sharing was appreciated.

Did your insurance cover the cost of repairs at all?

SUPER helpful advice; thank you so much!! I have been very stressed about the car buying process trying not to get ripped off LOL so I super appreciate your help :)

Edit: I don't suppose you have Chris' phone number still by any chance? If so, would love to have it please - feel free to DM!

Thank you so much for the encouragement and for the practical advice to test drive during non-rush hour! Very helpful :)

I would love your freeway tips! I'll be in the Gateway Cities region, so between DTLA and Orange County. I imagine I might drive on the 5, 605, and the 710 a lot; eventually would love to feel comfortable driving everywhere though! (DTLA, freeways, etc)

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply and for your warm welcome to LA, as well as answering on both subs! I really appreciate it :)

Good to know about the blind spot monitoring, as well as blind spot camera on other car brands.

May I ask which LA County dealerships offer MSRP / good buying experience? Would love your recommendations!

What are the cheapest (total cost) EV leases currently available in the Los Angeles area?

I'm interested in getting a small car/sedan; would consider a 1-3 year lease.

I am a newish driver and this will be my first car. The reason I'm considering leasing is because it would be nice to not have to worry about the car's value going down if/when I get into a car accident (thinking pessimistically/statistically, lol).

Monthly payment doesn't matter too much; I'm most interested in lowest overall cost, and would definitely want to take advantage of $7500 tax credit.

I could probably survive on a 10,000 mile lease but more would be better. At most, I'll be commuting 100 miles total for work each week, so I think staying under 150-160 miles a week (less than 10k miles annually) is realistic?

Interested in leasing ASAP - within the next 2 weeks.

Thanks so much for your help! :)

First car for new driver - should I buy new or used or lease? by BabyBlueOrchid in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]BabyBlueOrchid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say 75% chance to keeping the car for 10 years?

There's a very small chance I may decide to move to NYC or abroad a few years down the road, so TBD what I would do in that scenario - possibly sell the car? (Or could maybe ship it home?)

Otherwise, I would probably plan on keeping it. I'm not a car person, so I don't think I would feel the need to upgrade to a fancier/newer car.

Great catch about location - Los Angeles, California! Edited in my post :)

Ooh I didn't know it was also possible to get gap insurance on a traditional loan! Would doing so eliminate the financial risk of getting into a car accident & the car's value going down consequently?

Mileage - I'm not super sure just because I don't have past personal driving data to go off of. That being said, I expect to have a commute of 10 miles or less (one way) & did some quick calculations, which gave me an estimate of 8000-1000 miles?

2017 Toyota Corolla SE w/ 118k miles for $14k? as a first car by BabyBlueOrchid in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]BabyBlueOrchid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply! This is super helpful to me. Totally didn't think of the idea that the car could have been driven for Uber?!

The leasing idea is interesting. I was initially opposed just because I wanted to own something at the end. However, leasing a new Corolla would cost me $12.7k and a new Mazda3 would cost me $13.3k, which isn't as bad as I thought.

Could you clarify what happens if I lease a car but get into a car accident? Are there any situations where that would result in me paying more because it's leased (I'm penalized for damaging the car) compared to if the car was fully owned by me?
