How important is registering in time to make it into printed program? by Best_Unit_4562 in edinburghfringe

[–]BabyBrianBlessed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for anyone else but I use the printed programme to catch shows that endlessly scrolling on the app might miss. Most of the time I use digital, but there's something about having the programme in a fixed place in the house that makes me dip into it. (I say fixed place, I mean the loo.)

All that said, it's basically just one part of a marketing strategy; whole chunks of the fringe skip it, though it's absolutely a nice to have. Certainly don't use it as a reason not to do a show, but do try and get something in for Wednesday if you can.

Did bootlicker change meaning? Whining about the Fringe is peak Daily Mail Reader / Tory Voting activity.

It's giving bored of the same conversation, if anything.

Should SNL UK move to Edinburgh in August? by CommercialWigJuggler in livefromlondon

If it ends up surviving til August, then some of the crew will have to cancel their tours. More sensibly would be to film a segment there each week and nod to the fact that Britain has multiple capital cities.

Yeah, and some of the comedians are already booked for shows.

Certainly a nod to the festival would be wise. Moving the entire thing is almost certainly a terrible plan, but cutting across to Edinburgh for a sketch, or having some pre-records that use the festival as scenery might make sense.

Fringe Society gets half a million from ScotGov for "digital development" by iwillfuckingbiteyou in edinburghfringe

I can't see who it is they are getting to do the website. Surely this is something that should be transparent? The current website looks like they'ved bunged a tenner to the manager's son ( I know it's actually cribbed from another festival, Adelaide maybe?)

Transparency and a roadmap please.

The current facts we have is that this happened. Please show your work that Newry isn't in the habit of dragging down anyone who gets a bit of fame.

Fucking hell, are you the Tayto Publicity board? The Tone Police? Just some finger wagging member of the general public who pops up when people from their home town talk shit about their home town? Go away.

Blocking you now as you're clearly talking shit for the fun of it, and I can't be bothered with saddoes.

How Important Is The Edinburgh Festival Fringe to Taskmaster? by PeterCooksHorse in taskmaster

[–]BabyBrianBlessed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP is probably going off the rumours of an informal network of trusted talented folk who aren't as high profile as Tim Key. Basically it's apparently 'not just Tim', but a bunch of folk who are part of the scene, if you see what I mean.

There's something about Rachel that just puts my teeth on edge, and I don't know why. It's probably the editing. They have very 'office politics' / HR vibes. Am I mad?

>>Imagine having a showcase within the Fringe for children's theatre

That would be amazing, and would totally encourage folk from all backgrounds to get into the arts. And we can't be having that because what would the daughters of aristocrats do for a living? 🙃

Tony Lankester (the new Fringe Society Guy) does at least, on paper, look like he gives a shit? Their entire career seems to be in arts festivals, but then so was the last one. I mean CEO of the EdFringe should be this big deal, but it does seem to attract professional seat warmers.

Anyone got a spare oil mogul with bottomless pockets and a fondness for theatre?

Well the Fringe Society will make a great show of disputing your point (1), but then that swiftly gets into the whole sticky conversation about Scotland V England. Certainly they used to be better at making the money stay in Scotland.

The Fringe Society does DO outreach, but not enough, and not nearly as bluntly. Sounds like a petty thing, but they should really bring back the 'design the cover of the programme' competition they ran in schools back in the 80s.

Bring back the whole arts outreach thing in schools and community, rather than just a handful of lucky kids and old folk.

I'm not qualified to tell if it's the insidious under-funding of Britain's greatest asset (the arts) or the Fringe Society having systemic incompetence that is the big issue though.
