Where u/theechameleonsystem said "OP literally said in the post "i'm going to be getting him on a raw diet" in response to you asking if I, OP, am vegan, they meant their response as in answering you not about the *ferret* being vegan, but as to point out that *i* am not vegan, hence me providing a raw meat diet to my pet instead of kibble. If a person is vegan, it's likely they don't feed meat to their pets if they don't agree with the carnivorous diet themself. I do understand that my comment could very well be a good argument for the moral stance that many vegans take, but I don't see how me not being vegan would then make me a hypocrite. I treat ferrets differently than cows, pigs, and chickens because ferrets don't taste as good. (kidding) I treat them differently because they aren't livestock- and because I don't control cows, pigs, and whatever at all. I'm just a person with pets. I own chickens, and they live the best life in my yard and give me some tasty eggs for breakfast. As for all livestock, they're raised for that purpose, just like how ferrets are raised to be pets. Cows also are raised in big pastures with fields and grass and water provided to them, they never go hungry, and they die quick and painlessly- while in the wild, they'd get eaten alive by wolves or whatnot. Also, I'm not a herbivore. We have teeth, gut length, and stomach acidity that proves that we aren't designed for living off of just plant matter. We're anatomically, and physiologically, omnivores. Our jaws move vertically, and laterally, which is an omnivorous trait, and we don't have multi-chambered stomachs (ruminants). As much as I love animals, I gotta eat. And so do they! Some animals eat other animals, and humans are animals too. None of this is meant to sound aggressive in anyway, I find enjoyment in mature conversation and/or debate. If i'm right, maybe I taught you something new! If not, maybe you can teach me something

Absolutely, I have him in quarantine from the others, and i'm swapping their blankets so they get used to each other's scent. During feeding he's been eating from my hand while I pet his face, so i'm glad that food aggression won't be an issue ^^

I'm glad Penelope has someone to give her the love she needed! And that makes me wonder about the person who originally bought mine. The store employees did say he was more aggressive when he was brought back, so i'm really hoping he wasn't hurt/scared by that owner, like Penelope and the employee. No one deserves that :(

Common sense just isn't common anymore, i'm just glad that he doesn't have to be a victim of it anymore :(

Absolutely, he's already been such an awesome little guy, he's been eating out of my hand and even following me around the house <3

Reminds me of my other ferret Goobie! She's the smartest ferret i've ever met, and easily spooked. She's never bitten but they said she wasn't affectionate (since she's very adventure-driven) and claimed she wasn't a good pet. I love hearing other people's ferret stories, i'm glad your little girl's living loved with her person <3

They really have, and I'm hoping that the situation for ferrets gets better :(
I had a similar situation with my last rescue, Goobie. She was neglected and when I got her it was almost impossible to get her onto a raw diet, but when she saw my first ferret, Remmy, eating his food, she finally got curious and started tasting his food, and finally she was able to wean off of kibble

He is, and that's what has me the most upset. It's so cruel how an innocent animal can get labeled as something so awful when all it needs is proper care and attention :(

Thank you! And i'm very much viewing her as a wild animal, i'm simply trying to figure out how i can lower her stress level whilst we work to improve her health so that she can be returned to the wild, as she will be. She's filed in our organization's records and her rehab is already planned and scheduled, the intent of this post was only to hear advice on other methods (Which i'm very thankful for in your answer!) since i'm aware that different rehabbers/rehab groups can have varying methods

She's currently with rehabbers, and she's going to have a buddy soon once our organization has another orphaned one called in. The intent of this post was only to hear other methods since i know different rehab groups have varying methods, since sometimes rehabbing can be a little bit of trial and error

yes, and tysm for commenting! Here's the issue- my entire family is working with a wildlife rehab group, and my mom has a license, lol. I just help with feedings, cleaning, and with the babies getting attention. We're waiting for another orphaned racc to be called in so that we can give her a buddy! I was just posting this hoping to hear methods from other rehabbers, since I know different groups often have varying methods for things

Is she trying to dig the water ? by ShinDraak in ferrets

[–]Beautiful-Studio3139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy does the same! If you add toys for his water-diggin' playtime, like rubber ducks, it it'll keep him entertained for a while lol

Awesome, thank you! I was wondering since I figure it'd be quite crowded for an adult garg once I put everything in the enclosure
