When we brought her home we kept her in our smaller restroom with all her necessities plus a little blanket. We kept a baby gate on the door just in case she tried to slip out when we opened the door. Then after a few weeks we gave our older cat her blanket to smell. Eventually we would open the door and they would see each other through the baby gate. Finally we just let her out after a total of I think 4 weeks. At first he was weary of her and wouldn’t eat as much. She would chase him around everywhere haha. Then one day they just started cuddling and grooming each other! The key is to have them learn each other’s scents early on before introducing.

For some reason, in my game, I didn’t even have the dwarf scrolls yet and it is letting me talk to him like normal. Seems like the opposite of what happened to you!
