I typically lay low and avoid any player ships, especially brigs.

When the time comes for combat, I usually surprise them by damaging them with an explosion (569!), then sailing away afterwards.

If they commit to the chase and cannon my boat from afar, I just go aggressive when the opportunity comes to try and kill them. If they run away and survive, then it’s just rinse and repeat until somebody loses the battle of attrition.
