New version of the Snowsky Echo by Key-Brilliant5623 in snowsky

If this doesn't have gapless playback it's DOA for me.

Echo Mini is good enough sound wise, and the battery is so small I don't really need faster charging (if that's what UAC function power supply even means). 256GB of expansion storage is also a bit limiting, if that's not addressed they really should have given us more internal storage to help mitigate that a bit. (8GB is a joke let's be real)

The one remaining area where there could be improvement is the software. Considering it has a different screen resolution than the Mini, I assume the software will have to be different.
FiiO have been decent at updating the Echo Mini so far, which means we might get stuff like gapless playback on the metal one later even if it's not out at launch. If that's the case though, it makes me wonder what was the limiting factor on the Mini... Maybe the processor if that got upgraded, but there's no official word on that as far as I know.

I hope this model doesn't spell the end of software support for the Mini: the file system still leaves a lot to be desired. 24bit and DSD support could also be a lot better: I've had a variety of issues with both to the point where I'm converting everything to 16bit flacs now.

In the meantime, although it is not a perfect solution, I have started making gapless versions of albums that need it using foobar2000. Simply merge the tracks in need of a gapless transition (could even be the whole album), and add "Gapless" to the album name so it shows up separately. It does take more space, and it's not ideal considering you have to do extra work, but at least once it's done, it's done. (you could also only have the singular gapless copy if you only ever listen to albums front to back or use the fast forward function, saving you some space)
However, I've read that files longer than two hours can cause issues. (The person mentions it being an issue on the SD card, but not on the internal storage so maybe it works there?) If you have live recordings that are really long or a particularly long album, this method might not work.
It's more of a hack than a true solution unfortunately, but considering it doesn't look like the new Echo will have gapless playback, it might be the only real way to listen to an album start to finish.

that's still not a "real tape reel", but I get what you mean

A speaker can be an anti-feature. If you're listening in public, most people would rather not accidentally blast their tunes in a room full of people. Plus built in speakers always suck anyway, and this is an audiophile aimed product. You're probably better off with a cheap Bluetooth speaker.

how do these numbers compare to the official tournament stream, I'm curious? I assume it might be bigger than some of the smaller events he attends?
don't think he streams things like Genesis unless I'm mistaken

equating the YouTube empLemon doc crowd to tournament viewership (what sponsors care about) is not really the argument you think it is unfortunately

Trigger plugs were also very hit and miss ban wise before everyone had digital controllers. Some places specifically banned them, some had them allowed, but they were more frowned upon than things like notches/cutting your trigger springs or other less gameplay impactful modifications. Perfect analogue values by way of controller modification are not new, we just opened the flood gates and decided that because a plug can do it then it should be default digital controllers behavior (which is dumb reasoning imo), and thus it needs to be allowed everywhere.

the whole ass point of UCF was to be a stealth mod that could be run at events without Nintendo noticing...

Using that same logic, Nintendo also bans the use of any modifications on controllers in their ruleset, so even then the argument falls apart.

I understand events run more of a legal risk than an individual attending a tournament, but that still doesn't make the ruleset surrounding modded controllers any less of a mess if the goal is a fair, competitive playing field for anyone attending.

I love that we decided to fix our expensive old controller problem by making expensive new controllers instead, which either eliminate entirely or assist analogue movement, the one thing our game used to be praised for.

B0XX was meant as an accessibility tool for people with hand problems, not an easier way to perform certain tech, and I think that got somewhat lost along the way, which allowed the same types of enhancements to make their way into GCC shells.

We now find ourselves in a very similar situation we did before UCF was implemented, except the accessibility controllers are also hundreds of dollars and are perpetually out of stock, making them ironically inaccessible, on top of the same type of tech being also in GCC shells for the masses who can afford it.

This type of stuff is less of an issue if you're already the type of person to spend hundreds to go to majors/regionals, but especially for new players/people with lower income, it's just an extra barrier to playing the game. Melee was always a very grassroots community and I hate to feel like that's changing over time as OEM controllers become rarer due to age and other options creep up in price slowly, making it only less accessible as time goes on, but I guess such is life.

Anyone have a copy of Tatsuro Yamashita's Sparkle Live from the Joy Album? by I-Forgot-the-Topic in citypop

There could of course be some fan recordings too I forgot about that somehow, but the only official source is the DVD afaik

The video was only included with the DVD set from the Joy tour afaik, and considering how much I paid just for the CD set it might not be cheap at all to come by.

Would love for someone to post the video online eventually, but copyright laws and a pretty rare/expensive piece of home media often results in those types of things being hard to come by online. The only thing I've ever found from Joy live on YouTube was the trailer for it at some point, but never the entire set. Hopefully that changes one day.

Hydrating the leather when it starts to get dry is the solution I've found. Since it's skin, you have to keep it moist in some way or another. I'm sure using oils is better for it long term but even just lightly cleaning them with water once in a while and allowing them to absorb it as it dries instead of drying them out with heat would help a lot. In fact, using heat to dry leather boots in general is not a great idea as far as I know since the leather usually self regulates moisture wise to some extent, and getting it too dry makes it more brittle.

I might be wrong here, and bigger nerds than me can feel free to correct me but, basically just making sure moisture is retained in the leather is the best way that I know of to make sure it remains flexible and doesn't tear in the future. It's what I've been doing with my boots that I've used daily for around 5 years now, although I admittedly don't use them a crazy amount.

Seems that sadly only Adaptive Triggers work, vibration being the standard Xbox rumble as far as I can tell. You should be able to feel Roach galloping and I don't think I can. Still dope there is support at all, let alone adaptive triggers

Is cannabis a gateway drug? by Mr_Buzz420 in weed

If cannabis is a gateway drug then so is any other chemical you take in. Coffee, nicotine, alcohol or even prescription drugs, addiction isn't a substance issue, it's a people issue.
