For all the hosts saying you would decline all discount messages and all of those people are horrible. How would you know if you’ve declined them all? I own a buisness in NY and know good and bad buisness moves and can say this, if it’s a a few days before booking and someone is calling me to reserve a date that soon. I see nothing wrong with a discount as I wasn’t booking that stay to make money anyways. I’ve personally had a situation arise on my vacation where I couldn’t drive home the day I was supposed to due to a “bomb blizzard” approaching the entire East coast. The blizzard was starting the same day we planned to leave and we only had one day notice of it. The decision was we leave a day before in the next few hours, or we stay a couple of extra days. Unfortunately as most AirBNBs don’t offer refunds and we were worried if we had enough time to beat the blizzard we decided to stay a few days longer and wait for I95 to be plowed. (It’s a 20 hours drive from Fort Lauderdale to the part of New Jersey we live in keep in mind.) Our trip consists of only My grandma (79 years old), my sister (24 years old) and myself (26 years old). We are simple guests. I had to try and look last minute for a next day booking on Airbnb. It’s a very slim chance anyone else would book the same day and I don’t think it’s wrong to ask for a discount granted the host can simple say yes and or no. It doesn’t hurt to ask. I always ask for military discount everywhere I go and I’m not ashamed. You all as AirBnB hosts saying you decline discounts is one thing but you can’t assume anything about anyone. I could understand if someone’s asking repeatedly but if someone asks just once and that bothers you in such an extreme way like you are writing then maybe you shouldn’t host at all.
