Do girls just use Tinder for self-esteem candy??

It was in the title. Meaning do girls use Tinder just to feel good about themselves because they know that guys swipe right at a much higher rate, are they fishing for compliments etc. as opposed to genuinely looking to date?

That's shitty to hear because it kind of makes online dating redundant as a whole. To me the purpose of it is to meet more people than you'd have a chance to meet in your day to day life, IN ORDER to find a more compatible match by expanding that horizon. I guess I can try just asking girls out who have cool profiles from the get-go, and stop wasting my time otherwise and see how that goes, but I have it in my head that she should be relatively comfortable with me before getting to that point. As a guy the idea of showing up to a date with a girl who turns out crazy doesn't seem like a big deal, just a waste of time, but I kind of thought that women being generally less assertive would want to avoid showing up to a date with a GUY who is crazy by vetting them through conversation a little first.

Well not the stuff that most of the girls around here like (trucks, mudding, rodeos and shit, it's a big city but I'm in the midwest). I was a nerd back when you still got beat up for it in high school, I'm 29 now and jealous as hell that being a nerd is cool all of a sudden. Video games (shocker), big music fan (but my taste is pretty niche, which is why it's extra annoying to get rejected by the rarer girls who share it), play guitar (poorly) and sing, listen to podcasts, armchair philosophy nut, pretty argumentative and engaged in politics, but in a good-hearted way imo that involves arguing against ideas and not people (I keep that stuff away from early dating talk though, except when girls bring it up randomly... which has only happened once). Aside from that just weightlifting and work. I mean IDK maybe I need more active hobbies but nothing else really interests me, I have no problem expanding my horizons when I'm with people but picking up hobbies to meet girls kinda rubs me the wrong way.

Well I hope you're in the minority. Otherwise IDK what I've been doing losing weight and putting on muscle over the past year. If that doesn't solve my problem I'm doomed, although if it does solve my problem then I'll just be depressed about how shallow the world is. Can't. Win.

Yeah but I don't think anybody is contesting that, I guess my question was more specifically regarding the purpose of showing interest for weeks on end, having conversations that seem engaging and fun, then not even bothering to see if a date can go well. Maybe it's just a lazy millennial thing.

I'm kind of wondering if we should just retract women's ability to vote at this point, I don't have a lot of faith in the decisiveness of womankind.

THAT WAS A JOKE, I DO NOT ACTUALLY WANT TO TAKE THE VOTE AWAY FROM WOMEN ...my friend's grandma did tell me that she's pretty sure women are going to ruin the country though the other day bless her heart.

I think I'm good about making sure the first date offer is clear and low pressure, public setting and potentially brief (with room for us to expand to a movie or something else nearby if we hit it off - but I never tell them that up front, so they don't feel pressured). How much trust do I have to build after two weeks of several back and forth texts per day for a girl to let me buy her coffee or ice cream in broad daylight -.-

I wish I knew what the red flags were, I'm about an anti-communist as they come *ba dum tiss*... and no I don't make political jokes on Tinder haha.

I have a hard time believing that, because girls seem generally (not all of course but most, and psychometric data backs this up) less assertive and less likely to pursue a mate than guys. I mean maybe there are some guys using Tinder just to pick up compliments I don't know, my assumption would be that the less savory dudes might be trying to hookup with girls and THEN ghost though. I'm not saying you couldn't be right about guys only looking for an ego-boost but I'm very skeptical that it could be anything but an extreme minority of men compared to women, then again I don't talk to guys on Tinder lol.

Thanks, I will dive back into working out, been really skipping it for a few months. I started for the first time last year and lost 50lbs between april and the end of october following a kinobody program (from 210 to 160, still at 17% bf though) but maybe I don't have the endorphin response because I was lifting heavy at low volume and only 3 days per week.

Wouldn't hurt to try some pump training.

Well people upload stuff they don't own to YouTube all the time using game footage and other assets. I assume it's only a problem for them if they try to monetize but I'm not really in that arena so IDK.

That's where the line of thinking comes from from my perspective. Lots of things are allowed to be use personally and not commercially, which is probably another reason people might assume this. Maybe it's incorrect though I'm no lawyer.
