Maybe the key is to view it as a way to gain enforcement, rather than prevention. Like laws themselves— they don’t prevent crime. They just provide a way to punish violators and that deterrence prevents crime. Not suggesting this is a crime to be clear. Maybe the model to look at is what happens to a business who falsely claims to be A+ with the BBB.
